But it would be if you went into korea and started asking everyone in english to give you directions to the nearest bar or club wouldnt it?????? going into a place where you know for a clear fact that your language is either A:not spoken entirely or B: is spoken by so few, that actual communication is practically useless. As I stated before, im all for language diversity. but dont come to an english speaking country without atleast knowing something of thier language.

Saying everyone should speak English is a way of making yourself alone in the world culturally. I'd love to be able to speak Portugese and actually, I bet half the people raging about it are Anime nerds who like to slip the three Japanese words they know in to casual conversation.

suggestion: Everybody has to choose the languages he/she can speak/understand. If you go into matchmaking you are only matched with people that have a language in common.

Funnily enough I find that on SEA servers the quality of English is higher than on American servers. But I speak decent enough Portugese and Mandarin anyway..

Besides, why not view it as an opportunity to learn something about a foreign language? If you live in America learning Spanish especially is probably pretty useful huh?

It would be nice if it were possible to add a thumbs up/down option for "English Only."

Those who speak other languages/don't care about English Only wouldn't have to do anything, and their wait times probably wouldn't change.

I personally wouldn't mind waiting longer for [more] certainty that I will be able to understand my team.

I suggested language flags long long ago. You check off what languages you speak, and you get queued with people who share the same language(s).

I can think of no reason not to implement this.

Are you trolling yourself? Comments like yours implying that Canada is the Western world are exactly the issue. People are too lazy to even bother considering anything beyond their own front door. The world doesn't revolve around you. The 'western world' doesn't choose it's official languages based on what some kid in some backwater town in Canada speaks. I really found it hard to find somewhere to begin with what you said.

Conversely, how is it ok for you not to know their language when you try to speak to them. HoN lets international players play regardless of what language they speak. There isn't one rule for you and another for everyone else, and there's a reason for that.

You want to know what that reason is? It's because you aren't better than anyone else, so stop pretending to be based on the language you speak.

If HoN specifically said that it was an English speaking game then you would have an argument. But it isn't and you don't so suck it up. Plenty people in the western world are multi lingual, and they're better people for it.

I took a couple classes to learn basic portugese. It's really helped me tell the brazilians to use english in their own language.

Protip: They don't like it when the only thing you can say in Portugese is Use Inglês ou eu vou foder sua irmã com uma motosserra.

i play with some Canadians and American friends....i only speak spanish in a voice server of us and english in-game, but people still ***** about some of us having an accent on a language thats no our main one...even though we speak it fairly decent....but they cannot even speak spanish or portuguese....

get real people and maybe you should also learn another language english is not the only form of communication in this world

Unfortunately not everyone has the same geographical advantages. If you grow up in a number of parts of Canada / US the only language you will learn as a child is English. There is a massive landmass of basically one language. We don't have multiple countries with multiple languages withing a 3 hour flight. For monolingual people, learning a second language as an adult can be extremely difficult.

When a server is listed as USA east I would think that the majority of players i'd encounter would speak English. If i played EU i would not expect this. If i was playing on a server labeled central Canada I'd expect to get french and English.

What it comes down to is Hon requires good communication to have a good team. Having a good team makes a fun game, even if you lose. There is a huge landmass and population unfortunate enough to be monolingual and that language is English. These people want to play games they know they will be able to communicate with their teammates.

This is a problem, a real problem, not just random bigotry or rage, although there are those that use that to express it. This is something imho S2 should address and it would make the game more fun for all parties.

I suggested long ago Language Flagging, I feel it would work and it would help the situation..

I've learned that the best way to assess if a game is going to be 'one of the games' is to yell 'Hey Guys, How you all doing' into my mic on joining. And to notice who i get a reply from.
Any that dont reply I will text 'hey xxx have you got sound on? - just to check if they are a Mac user'.
If I still dont get a reply I will try and help them by pinging the map like a mad man before the obvious 'you are abot to get ganked'.
IF even that doesn't help and they are just obvious feeders better to take a leave and jump on the Russian roulette wheel again.

I've given up on even hoping for a 'fair' TMM match. Only queue with friends (who all have a mic and communicate) and suddenly your mmr goes up and up.... I wonder why?

The worst is when you discuss a strategy and you ask the guy with 1.9 kd or whatever who's obviously a carry player to pick a sidelane carry because you've got a strong mid, a jungler, a suicide and a good babysit all ready with your strategy and he doesn't say anything and doesn't right click anything and then goes f*cking blood hunter or deadwood, then finally, right before creeps spawn while he's at the mid lane river and finally notices the pebbles creep blocking mid and heading to the lane he says "me mid" in teamchat, then doesn't say anything else until 15:00 when he says "cc" in all chat and starts spamming concede votes.

Seriously. How do you miss five full minutes of people discussing lanes and strategy before, during, and after picks unless you're intentionally throwing games? Needless to say, we drew the game out as long as possible while he spammed concede votes and we refused to kick him. He didn't leave, so kudos to him protecting his leaver percentage, but seriously, that's the worst kind of griefing and isn't even close to punishable.

this crap happens about 1/10 games in the 1500-1600 bracket and it makes the game almost unplayable sometimes.
