Good luck. But why more game programmers? Are we going to... are we finally going to actually expand this game's boundries?

Probably for their new game. They've been working on one for quite some time now, but they've released zero info on it.

Programmers are also the core of any game, they create the tools for the scripters and game designers.

Well 100k is for managers who have like 5-10 years experience and who are pretty damn good. Programmers mainly have a salary cap of like 70k and that is for really good ones. I do know a guy who is on 100k but he is a former manager at microsoft and he is running an entire programming department and the dude is an inspiration like holy crap he is the best manager in the world he just knows everything. In 4 years 40k + 10% for the first 2 years then 5% years after that is pretty normal since you do grow into a job and have the most growth in the first 2 years and after that you do gain in value but a lot less. 1 thing to note is getting poached from a position generally deserves a bigger salary bump so there are exceptions to the rule but mainly the numbers I suggested above hold pretty well.

I was going to reply, but then I saw your CAI and account symbol.

Also, developers don't all magically earn £100k. I've seen starting games development jobs (for graduates) go at £30k, mind. Software development starts around £21 - 24k from what I've seen.

I've got 3.5 years of experience and my salary is quite high (seeing how I don't have much experience). Currently making close to £29k.

Probably need one or two more years of experience to make it to 30k

That's not entirely true. I'm sitting here for a call from Sony about a 100k+ job, and I am only a year removed from college...

TBH programmers can make a lot of good money, its just in the game industry companies can often take advantage of the fact that we WANT to work on games.

edit: just noted people weren't talking $s. I am X__X

You seriously do not know what you're talking about. First off it varies greatly by location. Silicon valley makes more than middle of nowhere. I'm in a fairly normal cost of living area, and many devs make more than 100k. That nation wide average starting salary is like 55k a year. I am a Software

Well I suppose that could be explained because that area is pretty competitive when it comes to developers like if you have experience then you can probably get a good job easy if you weren't being paid the going rate. In terms of my numbers im mainly quoting in euro which is my currency but its only a slight inflation so its at least not as far off as it seems.

Yeah in EU the salaries are lower than the US, from what I've seen. But since this was about S2 i assumed we were talking about US lol.
