What boots to get?

For priest either striders for roaming or plated greeves for pushing. (If it goes very well then post haste after core item builds)
For thunder bringer I would get steam boots(int) or plated greeves for survivibilty.

Why try to teach other players if you have no idea of how to play said hero? You are just confusing new players with your misinformation.

Any hero can be regarded as a 'semi-carry' and even if polly comes to mind he will forever be seen primarily as a pusher and a ganker, both of which relies on moving around from lane to lane as soon he gets his ulti and/or one or two core items. While different boots are good on him you will a lot of times find other core items such as Portal Key, Tablet of Command, Stormspirit or even Staff of the Master more important simply because is one of the few heroes that doesn't need any extra movespeed as your skills are all about locking your opponent down and your wards promote you to fight around them. Add that you will be looking to move between lanes and Striders is a natural pick up.

I saw only one good reason posted so far in this thread to buy striders, and that's as a set of interim boots to hold out with, while you get a portal key. Then you sell them back later and buy better boots. That's an acceptable plan. Not something I would do, but at least it makes sense.

Your reasons make no sense. Do you push much? It doesn't require you to "run around everywhere." Hahahahahaha. And if you were PUSHING, you would buy PUSH BOOTS, NEVER striders.

The point on the striders is that it saves you 700g towards the PK/Stormspirit/Shrunken while you still get a better presence ALL OVER THE MAP. Especially when you are going for the Post-Haste. And SotM is a valid build if you want to split-push. It makes the threat of Polly grabbing undefended towers that much higher if that is what you are going for. I'm not a fan of the item either, really rarely build it but it has great uses if you use it well. Not like so many pubs who just think "OMG MOAR WARDS NIEC!"

The point of striders is not split pushing. I'll give you the pbox though. That is a great item for additional pushing power, especially when going for split-pushing.
