I very rarely play mid and realize this is something i need to do to advance my skill and mmr. When i do play mid i almost always lose. I know why i lose but i don't know how to fix it. Even if i do well in the lane with last hits denys etc. I will go up or down to gank and it hardly ever pans out in kill. This obviously leads to a loss in level and farm.
What are some tips for ganking the sidelane successfully. What should i be looking for. When should i go do it. What should i ask my team to do to help?
If the lanes are pushed and i cant get to the rune is better to sit mid and farm even though the team will ***** that im not ganking?
No matter what hero i seem to play i rarely get a successful gank. I've even had invis runes with heroes like valk and hag and the gank still fails.

usually if shts warded i get a homecoming stone and if sht breaks loose bot or top ill quickly tp and help out.
or walk around the ward ofcourse. or you can flash people with illusianssssss
90% of the time i will TP and walk around and i always try and have a tp on me to help out at skirmishes. I'm talking more about nothing going on in the lane with a nuetral position (Lanes pushed to about half way between each tower). I also try and take the uncommon routes when ganking.
When at the pick screen, and you know you'll be mid, try to get sidelane picks which are easy initiators, like Hammerstorm/Magmus/Monarch. Makes it a lot easier to follow up with a Valk Arrow or a Hag ult or whatever. :B
6 ways to help you out.
1.Always tell your team when youīre going to gank.
2.Gank with invis/haste.
3.Buy a tp to avoid wards (if they did ward)
4.Donīt gank and farm up (mid lane doesnīt have to gank, itīs situational - depending on your hero/runes/how well the other lanes do)
5.Get your team to gank your lane (itīs just as good to shutdown mid as to shutdown the sidelanes)
6. If you do gank, make sure the enemy isnīt tower hugging/your lane has enough mana and life to support you (just make sure you actually CAN gank this lane).
constantly look at bot/top to see how they react to whenever they supposedly call mias, gauge their reactions and stuff, if they bad/good, and whenever it's pushed too far and you pushed your lane get the **** over there n rape some butt.

forcing ganks isnt always the best way to ensure kills, try carrying tps and counter ganking instead of just rolling into the side lane.
gank the lane where kills would be more easy to get, for example it might be easier to add some nuke damage as hag in a mag pyro lane rather than have to land a perfect ulti so that your sandwraith darklady lane can run up and start auto attacking to help you out.
maybe study some higher player replays and see how they do it? :S
also what heroes are you using? because certain runes are godly on certain heroes

When I do mid I've been trying out heroes like monkey king, tort, valk. After reading these tips i played a no stats as tort mid. Before the match i told my team i would not gank their lanes unless i got a rune ward and they kept the lane pulled back. I ferried my bottle and a tp and After about the 4 minute mark our jungle hero finally threw up a ward. I ended up 4-0 after killing mid once and 3 successful ganks. All in all went well.
Oh in that case i need to add a 7th point.
If you donīt get a ward, buy one yourself. Not just because of ganking, but if you can decide between rune controle and see incoming ganks from their roamer or have no vision - always get a rune ward. No matter if there are better heroes to do it, this is the cheapest advantage you can buy and its huuuuge
Courier a TP stone to yourself, and drop it somewhere behind your tower so the enemy mid won't know you have it. Then when you want to gank, pick it up, TP, and rape face because you got there before the other guy could even call miss.
In conjunction with invis or haste, this is almost guaranteed to catch people off guard. If you're playing pub games, it has the added advantage of causing the other team to rage at each other because they didn't get the call.

check this replay out, im pretty proud of my ganking efficiency 81240683 (tping with haste runes and what not)
also check out the player minortotemzz, he is one of the best torturer's iv'e seen, he'll usually shut down mid and then gank with runes at opportune moments.
you have to really be careful with the heroes you've mentioned as they really require a lead in xp and farm, carrying tps and ganking when the enemy heroes have committed to an engagement would be best.

Only gank when you get runes that can get you up in a fast or safe way.(haste/invis)
If you are carrying the game and going solo, try to get one of the supports from the sidelands to gank the other lanes.
Carry a tp from 5 minute mark, and ALLWAYS have one on you from that point.
Try have some map awarness, if they call miss top "MAGMUS IS MISSING" don't just sit on the lane like nothing happend, use your eyes and keep being carefull until you see that magmus being back on the map.
Try not to make the team rely on you, but make sure you got some supports/roamers that can do most of the dirty work wile you sit mid and get lvls and farm. You are key mid game to secure a victory.
And last, try not to walk up a lane to gank, use the runes, they are there for a reason.
