    Error updating file: ./hon.exe

Having an ongoing issue. Did a search of the forums and didn't return any similar hits.

Basically after the patch downloads it will go into the install process but halts at about 85% complete with this error message coming up. Opening up HoN again prompts to download that patch again and starts the install process again with the same results.

Previously I resorted to downloading and installing the full game once again which worked. Not wanting to repeat that for every patch I could use some help. This error has cropped up in the past and still remains.

    I've tried several workarounds including:
    • most recent Windows Updates
    • changing compatibility for win95
    • deleting Update folder
    • copying new versions of hon.exe and k2.dll
    • opening with opengl

    Some specs:
    • Win7 Ultimate 64bit
    • AMD FX4100
    • AMD Radeon 6950

    console.log here.

    Thanks in advance!

Make sure you have enough hard drive space left over for the updating process (about 1/2 - 1 GB to be on the safe side).

There is also a possibility it is unable to patch hon.exe because it is still running. Check your task manager for a "zombie" HoN.exe during the final part of the patching.

Edit: Also, in your work around, you mentioned copying new versions of hon.exe and k2.dll. How did you acquire those files, and what you did with them, as the method may be incorrect?

Thanks for the reply. I'm fine on HD space and I've tried patching after a fresh reboot with no other programs running, (anti-virus, firewalls, etc). Still to no avail.

Another post in support suggested trying to download new versions of hon.exe and k2.dll. Attempting to run the new hon.exe didn't work, so I restored the older file versions.

Am I experiencing a rare error? As I haven't seen anyone else run into this before..

I would recommend a full reinstall at this point:
    http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/wi...lete_Reinstall

    As for the hon.exe:
Either the version you had was for a previous version (check the link to see if it has the correct patch #), or you incorrectly placed them in the main HoN folder instead of the update folder.

If you still have trouble at the patch part 3/3, there is something else to try if you feel somewhat computer snazzy, but do so AT YOUR OWN RISK:
As the patch information has already been downloaded, go into your update folder and manually move/replace the files to there correct location. This gets tricky with the s2z files as you have to actually add/replace the effected files, involving unzipping, replacing, and then rezipping (including textures.s2z and resources0.s2z)

I did a full reinstall, and was able to update, that was last week.

Now with todays update, the exact same issue came up again!! If I have to reinstall every time there is an update, I would rather not play.

Can you upload your latest console.log.

Also, what antivirus/firewall are you using? Some, like comodo, have a tendency to interfere in the background even when disabled. For this, you may need to uninstall your software, or add an exception to the hon folder.

I did upload the console.log in my first post..

Disabling av or fw didn't help.

It could be your computer's native security.

Make sure you have admin privileges. Also try installing HoN directly onto C: as the security is looser there.

Right click, then run as administrator (on the hon-update file, or whatever its name was) did it for me. Cheers !

Sounds like a strict permission issue.

    -Disable Bitdefender when updating.
-Add a security exception to the HoN folder.

Yeah I think the only solution "As usual" is to reinstall the game again, been having this for the last 4-5 updates and the only solution that worked was to reinstall the game every single time...

Nice... I even uninstalled the game and reinstalled and the same issue is still there.

I did the same and worked.

PD: Next time S2 should try to test a new launcher a little more..

Tried all the things in this thread , waited for the new patch this Friday and yet the game still won't patch getting this error every time no matter what. Had no problems with any earlier patch up to the new hon updater. Any other solutions?

I get this issue every few patches, and it never seems to work launch date to update, but a few days later works itself out. It's definitely frustrating and its been ongoing old patcher and new.
