RE: level 1 ult
This is Nymphora syndrome. Nymphora's ultimate only took herself pre-buff, and it was often skipped for levelling other skills. Since level 1 was buffed to take +1, it's basically become the defining factor of the hero, and batshit op in (i'd claim) a really bad way.
Double invis ganks from level 6 onwards is just another form of this, on a hero with insane laning as well. Level 1 ult might be terrible now, but level 2 ult quite frankly opens up his entire game. Putting that to level 6 would need to be accompanied with heavy heavy heavy nerfs to his other skills, which arguably Nymphora should have had (and didnt).
Let me spell it out plain for you
Angry people complain about the things I do
I'm not changing direction, I'm stepping my game up
Maintaining my name, the same way I came up.
Truth is, I thought it mattered
I thought that music mattered.
But does it? Bollocks!
Not compared to how people matter.
I think people grossly underestimate the ability to put Defile on yourself while you're closing the distance with invis, without them instantly running away. Only reason that his lvl1 ult seems weak is because lvl2 and 3 ult make him batshit insane.
Revenent is not a support hero. That is his biggest problem.
There is no reason to give a solo lane to a hero that doesn't get that much better with farm, he primarily needs the levels. If he went sidelane solo, he would get easily smashed. Parasite gank = dead, Cthuluphant gank = dead, Ophelia gank = dead. There is literally no reason to pick this hero when Hellbriger, Bubbles, Torturer, Hag or Succubus are in the pool.
He gets easily countered. If he went sidelane solo his opponent would get a fast Puzzlebox and he would be done.
While he is fine for TMM, unless you put his invis duration back to that 40 seconds or something he probably won't see much competitive play in this current metagame. Hes not a bad hero, he just needs some buffs to aspects of him that won't really get countered in high level games to mitigate those aspects that will.

This, nothing is more annoying than outpost tps from nymphora starting at level 6. His skills already do less than other nukes because they can be multicasted later and raise in power. One could argue that he could struggle even more if he got double cast early because of how weak his skills would be without fully utilizing the double cast.

Tbh unless enemy team will buy revelations at early lvls you cant rly gank rev. Ctulu wont get stun off before rev casts his invis unless your doing it from fog - but that works for everyone. Parasite needs to come close to you with a creep so unless its wild hunter you will just invis away. Ophelia creeps needs to come close to cast stun so you just invis away. Rev is 1 of better solo when looking at the surviving ganks aspect. Its just dumb to say that HB or Tort better in terms of surviving ganks. Yes bubbels and Hag would do better but those are like the best escape mechanism solo heroes you can get + both would get oufarmed/outharassed in 1v1 sidelane scenario by Rev.
Saying that he can get countered easy by a fast puzzle box is just dumb. Although puzzle box is a relatively good item there arent many heroes who can afford early puzzle box rush and not lose on their effectivness at the same time. But even if you get puzzlebox its not a counter to revenant. Sure he wont be able to scout with invis whole map but he got 2 other skills at the same time. Q which is great dps/slow tool which shines even more if you can cast it on couple of allys at the same time later on. W which in many cases is like ophelias amplified dmg dealing 300 magic dmg at the same time. + You need to remember that PB got long cooldown while Revs invis is recharging relatively fast.
Although there can be some design probs with Revenant i would say that his ability to solo sidelane is the least possible one.
On the side note: Rev is one of better suicide lane heroes with his ability to invis and run into tress lettinghim leech experience.

I think he's a great hero marred by being shoehorned into the support role by a majority of the playerbase. He doesn't need buffs because, if anything, Bound Eye is what needs to be changed/looked at.
[EDIT] However, I will mention that his level 6 ult is absolute ****ing garbage.

He is fine as he is. Only part why I hate playing him sometimes is when I cast defile on ally and he does not attack. But maybe the only problem he has is that he needs more exp than other support gankers.
Also I forgot to mention. His ult seems quite lackluster at only 1 point, so I always leave it unleveled till levels 10 and 11
Why do I need rank 1 ult to remain invisible when casting from essence shroud?
In fact, why does this ult exist? You could just add the multiple targets thing to each ability individually, like ranks 3 and 4, rescale some numbers (like the damage boost) and have something entirely different for the ult. You wouldn't need to wait for level 11. In fact you could have invis ganks at level 5, granted someone else would have to bring in the damage because you wouldn't have them at that point.
Also remove those ****ing ghosts on his immolation spell, they look like ****, just hog up space and are overall more distracting than anything.
I've seen this hero be really strong in teams that build around him. In many lineups and lanes (suicide lane, gank heavy line up etc).
He has quite some damage, the invis is strong (if only it was to force the opponent to spend money on counterwards/eye) and he can hold his own in most lanes.
I really like the 1/2/3 on ult suggestion, but is rev really in need of that change? It's really hard to balance around invis :<

Extraordinarily versatile hero. Can dual / tri lane support, can roam, can gank, can semi carry, can be a middle hero due to his invis (escape mechanism) and ability to stack -armor and slows. Seeing as he has an extremely high mana pool and can cast 3-5 skills at level 1 without needing to replenish his mana pool, he isn't very core-item dependent (item dependent in the early game) making him the perfect hero to be buying wards and team items such as energizer, plated grieves, astrolabe, barrier idol etc etc. That makes him an extremely useful support hero. Not to mention, the ability to make ally heroes as well as himself invisible at level 11 and at level 16 up to 3 heroes invisible. He is also an extremely good solo semicarry because of his ability to destroy creep waves easily if he is struggling in farm (a level 2/3 of his W skill will destroy an entire wave of imps and archers) That comined with his large mana pool makes him perfect for the middle lane.
Please don't change Revenant! He is my favorite hero and is 100% perfect for his position.
You can't play him as a support, he is a semi-carry with high team-utility. His attack animation/damage/projectile are just too great to not abuse, and he has certain safety with his invisibility.
I can't believe I never thought of rushing pbox on Rev. He's probably my favourite hero, and pbox is my all time favourite item. God, what's wrong with me.
I think he's picked not to often is purely because Rev requires a particular playstyle to be effective.
The best rev's I've seen are very agressive in lane with out even being there, this + keeping up a good farm is very hard to pull off.
his invis means you can put him in any lane and he can save himself or his ally from being ganked, he can safely place wards throughout the game and his harass level is amazing, able to get the upper hand against any counter-harass against all heroes except martyr (who is the best harasser in the game imo), his presence in a lane against anyone who cant harass him reliably should mean an automatic lane victory for you.
If his farm goes really well he transitions from support to carry incredibly well, building Arcana's for the increased attack speed aids his proc, and hellflower allows you to set up solo ganks with invisibility really well.
Frist:
Scale his 3rd skill fade time. 1s fade is too much
Make his 3rd skilll like scout. Give a buff to attack enemy applied - armor in 3 seconds when out invi
Two
Buff his ultimate in lv 6 effect more 1st and 2nd skill
Why dont buff some damage like
* + 5/10/15 damage of 1st skill
* Effect reduce more magic armor or damage ???
Really in lv 1, this ultimate is boring and sick
revenant is a pub hero but even in pub, this hero treated like a fun hero
he really doesnt need a buff. the only way to counter him is to buy early rev wards, and that isnt even a counter, he isnt a high value target because he is a support hero can is able to transition into a carry or ganker if his farm is good, otherwise he isnt anymore reliant on items than any other support hero is.
