Moderation regarding the General Discussion section

There are way too many useless spam/troll/clutter threads. I could link them all out but that would be a waste of my time. I feel that the mods need to have a more strict and direct set of rules to follow. I used to post quite a bit there but then over half the threads have become complaints, cries for help, advertising a player's own stream, etc.

    The description clearly states:
"For positive, constructive discussion about Heroes of Newerth."

It's apparent that NO ONE follows that description, might as well change it to.
"Any discussion that is HoN related"

The rules cover most things, the issue is simply being able to keep up with all the threads.

The best way for you to help is you make use of the report a post function, using it helps us find the threads which break the rules and overall helps us clean the forums.

I spammed using it after having one of my threads closed in GD (in rage). It was only during that time that i've seen the most clutter threads locked. It was amazing but I simply do not have the time to do that each time I wander around the forums. I could try but I find it too tedious and to me, a waste of time. Hopefully the mod team can find someone suitable to just clear up those threads.

I report people when I feel the need to report them. I don't really see that much of a problem honestly. I feel like the moderation is quite good compared to other forums. It's just really hard to maintain a clean community. But most of the troll/unconstructive threads are removed within a few minutes. It's hard for mods to keep track of single posts in threads I guess.

Needs more slaves to keep it clean.

Right now how, the GD forum is actually amazing. It's funny though the mass "lock useless threads" only happen when I complain.

It only happens when moderators pay attention

Unfortunately we do not have the same coverage at any given time of day.
Sometimes it's very clean, sometimes it's very messy.

That's why I personally am not really worried about manpower per se, but rather consistency.

I don't know if you guys have one or not but I think a schedule would be very helpful to fix the consistency problem.

You can't really schedule people for a volunteer position.

Why not? You assign different mods to be on at a certain time, sort of like a job except they don't get paid since the'r volunteers. And just as long as they are moderating during their assigned time period, their session is complete

Because the exact reason they don't get paid, I personally would never volunteer for something like this if I had scheduled times to be on. I do it in my free time because I enjoy doing it but work and study commitments are more important for obvious reasons.

What about a REALLY flexible volunteer hour? Well since there are probably mods from around the world and people are from different time zones, a few mods would cover one time period, lets say for example from noon until 10pm is when they are responsible to moderate but is only required to moderate for lets say 1 hour or something. But if they cannot do it, then someone else covers?

    I tried...

It would require to much work to manage some thing like that. The current system has fairly good coverage.

Forum Moderators are not S2 Games employees. My posts in no way represent the view of S2 Games or any of its staff.

Please use the report post function to have me review a post that you believe is breaking the Forum Rules.

No... just managing when the mods should be moderating.

If I'm on the computer I generally have the forums open.

Thing is, it is a volunteer position, I can't be on 24/7. We aren't only moderators, every moderator volunteers to do it in their spare time but as stated by Vahn, we all have other commitments. For example, I have about 40 contact hours of uni a week now.

...that's not how one moderates a forum.
    • Intentionally misquoting users
    • Bandwagon statements with non-constructive intent

lmfao the desperation is hilarious --^
