Your team picks sa am scout arachna.
You lose the game with a k/d of something like 4/2/6, while the entire scourge team has like 13 kills total.
    Your psr goes down anyways.
Next thing you know, people are calling you a noob because of 14xx psr.
    See:

    Long-term vs. Short-term effects

    For justification regarding PSR.

i stopped playing high psr games because the gap between noob and pro is bigger. yes some ppl with high psr are good, but sometimes they are just lucky.

i went from 1685 to my shitacular 1580-ish in two days... lost 10+ games in a row because (i **** you not) 9 of those games my enire team was worthless feeders. granted i did poorly on some of those games, but it was for my teams sake (trying to save them). also stacked, pubstomper teams often hide themselves well having a mix of high and low psr... very lame.

but legitamitly i've seen 1800-ish completely rock my nubstar team.

i started hosting my own games and just letting anyone in, idc anymore... my spirit is broken...

    sigh

HoN Armory has the best stat tracking system. It gives you more info than you can see ingame, and I literally checked it after I played a game and it was updated. Plus the search function works flawlessly.

Story of my life man. I'd always join the 1600+ etc, thinking "oh with this PSR req. the players have to at least be decent!" I kept getting BR's or just worthless players somehow, lost some 7 games in a row and sunk to about 1570 PSR from about 1650 in one day. I just about rage-quit the game.

the highest possible PSR is defined by the function

    f(x) = ax + 1500

x being the number of players

I made this one up while being in the bathroom so dont trust me on that one but it should be close to it. And by the way a doesn't have to be a constant it might also be a function or variable... so in the end this might be a simple function or 2 chained functions

    I hate PSR as well.

I hit the mid 1600s... then the next day I lost something like 11 games in a row, almost do to nothing but leavers. I'm in the 1350s now. Losses don't bother me now, I expect them.

What bugs me with psr is if you play by yourself you get to like 1650+ and then autobalance gives you all the idiots on your team, because we all know that if a game title says 1600+ there will be people well under that and as long as they arent on the hosts team they will be staying.

As far as I know, there is no set maximum for PSR. Your rating can be continually inflated as long as new players keep joining the game. With no new players, your PSR will eventually plateau. Jazilla's answer looks good to me.

Your PSR should plateau as long as you're not getting better/worse

In the long run, it's a representation of a playing joining non-premade 5v5 Pub games, and if you cease improving, your PSR will cease going up.

Even if you improve, you require other players to improve so that you can in turn beat them or be beaten and elevate PSR further.

I mean purely in terms of the theoretical maximum, rather than the maximum PSR any player will reach.

There isn't a maximum PSR. If you win every single game that you play, then your rating can only increase. Of course, as your rating gets very high, the PSR gained per win will eventually become zero. Over time though, the players below you will gradually increase their PSR, meaning that if you continue to win every single game that you play, you will still get a little bit of PSR. As you can see, this cylce can continue on forever, just so long as the players below you can actually maintain an increasing PSR and that you continue to win every game htat you play.

I think the highest ELO rating ever reached in chess was 2848 by Garry Kasparov, so maybe thats a figure you can all aim for.

On the ICC the highest rating is over 3600 for blitz games. So as you can see, really the maximum PSR could be any number.

If you need help finding the lowest theoretical psr just look at:
