Perfect example of a balanced hero that shines light on how imbalanced some of the current heroes are.

Around 1.5 years ago Soulstealer was a fairly common pick in competitive play and even more so in matchmaking. Some really great Soulstealer players and unwarranted community complaints put S2 in a position to think of him as OP and thus treated him as such. (Kind of like brized's Electrician)

Since maybe the release of Aluna or Bombardier (the first 2 "OP S2 HEROES") Soulstealer has become mostly a pub hero because of these reasons:

Although he is a strong mid hero the moment he dies he becomes useless until he builds up his souls. He is easily ganked because he can't escape a 2v1 without team support.

He is better off farming than ganking because he doesn't have any disable or movement skill. To gank another lane requires almost full map control and even 1 TP will most likely get you killed.

If the enemy team counter picked him with something like Rampage or Tundra he cannot get an ult off in a perfect position. If they didn't counterpick him he still needs Shrunken to get the ult off.

My suggestions to make him fit with the current metagame are:

Increase his movement speed to 300.
Change his ultimate to physical damage.
Reduce Razes to 75 mana cost.
Change the ult to a ball that you throw that explodes in the same way it does now. (Freeing SS like Forsaken Archer was freed for teamfights) And if that isn't balanced make him shed half (or all) of his souls for using it.

Aluna was never an S2 OP HERO. Just a strong hero with a good AT and a powerful nuke. She came out in the trilane meta so came out strong as her nuke on top of hammerstorm and myrmi was a guaranteed lvl1 fb.

Do you play a game called League of Legends very much perhaps?

How would your supposed changes make him fit into the "current metagame" better? Do you even know what metagame is? Would it surprise you if I told you that the "current metagame" might or might not be something desirable and therefore buffing something to "the current metagame" might be a bad idea?

Do you think saying Raze instead of Demon Hand makes you appear better?

Do you know what balance is?

Do you like asking lots of questions without actually adding to the discussion of the CURRENT HERO? (Not saying he doesn't deserve it, but you should include more than just bashing in your post. I completely agree with you otherwise.)

Soulstealer is no longer a unique hero. He used to be the few and the proud that could literally instagib creep waves to farm early. Thats what made him what he is. All of his skills complement that. Now that other heroes can do the same, even if at a higher cost, he is no longer his niche. Amun Ra can easily insta ck creep waves, but he has infinitely more utility with both a stun, and a reliable slow. The first step to making SS better would be to bring the other heroes inline.

tl; dr: Don't just bash, Soulstealer is no longer unique, and more important people need balance.

I left hints that the current "meta" might not be the most lovely and that we should do something about it, besides provoking questions often rises more discussion and effort in other people's posts.

So far the best and most minor tweak, which I personally think are the best kind, is a buff to MS

This is just a proposed idea, but what if with his second ability he gained 1 ms per soul

Sure if ganked he slows down, but farmed up hes very fast and harder to gank

EDIT: We want him to still have negatives and positives. Not like the other heroes that just have no negatives.

    +30 ms, seriously ?

If it was even 15 i would wonder if its not op :P

+5/10 is highest possible value in my oppinion

SS Used to be a top tier hero BEFORE the nerfs... the hero was nerfed by changing the ultimate's delay, raising the cost of demon hands, creation of multiple 'more OP' heroes, nerf of FWS / buff of Shield Breaker...

Some might not realize how Shield breaker becoming the go to over FWS impacted this hero... but it was a huge blow to him. FWS used to give him both survivability and a much needed disable... Now a day, with shield breaker, if this hero was to go for it, he would be squishy as hell with 0 escape / 0 HPs, he would just evaporate.

The usual Shrunken + PK combo is not so hot anymore as
A: Tanky style heroes will survive the burst
and B: The new ranged carries that stay back will just demolish him with their beloved Shield Breaker.

Overall, the hero is in a pretty bad spot. Even if he was the exact same he used to be when he dominated, he would barely be picked by most teams but no, he's even worst than he used to be.

I'd say: Start by reverting the nerfs on him and see from there.

Another thing is trilanes where you could pretty much expect two solo lanes and he'd get early levels even if ganked. This meant that each ulti or demon hand could be landed on at least two underleveled supports. Hag and Bomba was good during this period too since they wreck underleveled heroes with nukes and stuff.

So I'd say that contributes together with FWS nerf and ofcourse the actual direct nerfs he has gotten.

    rework?

Maybe give his aura a active ability for the cost of souls, so he can survive early ganks. Just a thought

I think a big issue with SS is that there is a huge stigma attached to him laning. With the amount of ganking that goes on in the current meta it becomes very hard to win middle reliably.

I would be interested in seeing how SS does in a sem-trilane, Ophelia/hard support/SS. His levels would take a little hit but his survivability would go through the roof. Has anyone tried this

I've tried Nymph SS lane but the problem still comes when after the laning phase ends, hes still farming and still vulnerable to ganks. Why would you ever do a lane like SS +Stun when you can do something like ANY OTHER HERO WITH A FLASHFARM AND CARRY POTENTIAL + Stun?

He's been outclassed. He's a good hero who has been left behind by people with his strengths and MORE.

He is far too vulnerable compared to his competitors. Nerf them first then deal with SS later.

Get him shroud + shielbreaker and you will see how ss can 4hit ra while having only 9k items. People should start thinking about ss as a hard carry. Forget the pk builds.

Oh please, you're suggesting that SS should be the baby in a trilane to get super farm?

I don't think the problem is soul stealer. Honestly,The problem is the new heroes more than SS, most new heroes aren't balanced (some haven't even been nerfed yet.)
Add the fact that most new heroes has an escape mechanism and you get what we have today.
Heroes that smack SS in the face and piss on his corpse.
    In other words:
Do not change SS, He is fine they way he is. Change Nomad, Dm, RA, Gemini and Berserker instead.

I'm hardly suggesting that. I was answering to a previous post. If he were to be babysat, he would be underleveled (and shock) more weak to ganks.

Thats his problem; he can output great damage up until about 30-40 minutes before a real carry takes over but the problem is the gankyness and how unsafe of a pick he is because of it.

Read the post with the terms "hard carry" and "shroud"

    My sincerest apologies.

    :jera:

He isn't a hard carry with 1.5 steroids, one of which gets worse as the game progresses. He needs early dominance, can achieve it, but dies far too easily to make use of it. There was once a point in time where he could die 4-5 times early and still maintain 300+ GPM easily and keep skyrocketing; that role has been outclassed and given to too many people now.

How does +60 damage and -5 armor get "worse" as the game progresses?

Less valuable, maybe, but I don't see "worse".
