I just found this new artile in Joystiq about riot improving their bots and giving them huge importance.

The question is:
If Valve and Riot have invested lots of reasources into this, why S2 haven't?
I think playing against bots from time to time can be relaxing while also improving teamplay and the learning of new heroes before jumping into the MM jungle.
Thoughts?
True, but let's say in 4 months we get custom maps, it will be better.
Do you really think S2 has the competence to create bots?
Or the interest to do so for that matter.
I guess they could put some shitty bots in the shop. Shitty bots that get stuck, towerdive with no chances of success etc. which you need to buy with real money because the silver coin price is going to be so high that no one is willing to use that option. In short, a hastily put together shitty product that is overpriced and exists purely for monetary gain, not for improving the game.
Sounds about right for S2.
Bots are a huge thing for a free game. It is a giant leap for LoL to improve this because they are going to entice some casual players who are absolutely awful into loving their game because of bots. I have a friend who plays LoL and loves Dota 2 despite only playing with bots.
When people are thrown straight into matchmaking, they tend to get stomped by smurfs. Most end up quitting this game rather than taking the time and devoting themselves to learn how to play. Bots provide those players with instant gratification. They get to faceroll stomp hard, boost their morale, and learn the basics of the game. Add in some actual difficulty to the bot games and they will have been better off than going straight into mm and getting stomped.
Rambling, but main point is that bots increase player retention.
Has a rubber duck named "Mr. Quackers."
Rudra || Plaguebringer || Bastion || Castor/Pollux || Arcane Assassin || Smoke
Blog yo
Give us 50 bucks each and we might put in bots when we implement the custom games (i.e never)
I thought this was going to be about people using bots to grind IP.. Something that I know a lot about![]()
Thanks Vahn
There is no need for bots. I would rather play with/against real players.
So because you don't want it there is no need for something? Logic fail.
Would be an amazing feature especially for newer players, but creating a nice AI is a real hard thing.
A lot easier would be: Take down the BIG RED PLAY NOW BUTTON. And lead newer players to public games.
IIRC S2 said bots weren't worth it, for some reason.
I remember when I started playing DotA, I often didn't play for ages because when I did I would just end up getting stomped and everyone abusing me. Wasn't the most fun thing to play. Bots would make the game soo much better for noobs trying to learn...
Look, I believe in numbers and statistics, so when all your competition is working hard on something, in this case improving their Ais, and you (S2) are saying it is not important... then the only company not doing it is probably wrong, and while they keep adding more value for their new players for them to learn the game in a more friendly environment while also promoting experimentation and teamplay (human team vs ai team) all you do is release undertested heroes...
Well, they said something BIG is comming for version 3.0.
And that BIG thing can only be 2 things:
- An improved engine, able to use all the procesor cores available today, with better RAM and system resources management to ELIMINATE all the crashes.
- Ai Bots with offline practice mode to help reduce the saturation on the servers.
Hopefully both, because adding bots without optimizing the engine would lead to even more crashes... and I am talking about REAL optimization, not just some UI improvements, I am talking about rewriting the core engine. Hire some professional coders $2, you've got the money!
