Sorry sir, I don't seem to recall who you are anymore because you never post on/play with gaf anymore.

(But seriously we need someone to help with mint's rather comical inhouse pubstomping)

lol @ the ulti description. I remember when I finally realized what this hero's ulti did and my reaction was pretty much exactly that. I still laugh at how ridiculous it is, the cooldown, the duration, the effect, the radius, cast range etc...etc... nice guide btw, probably best premium I've read (although I've only read a couple).

Congrats on premium. GIVE THAT MAN HIS HELM OF THE BLACK LEGION!

Excellent guide! I can't believe how detailed the rundown of the skills were. I think I actually understand how I'm supposed to use this guy now.

I tried it for my first time this hero and got like 6/1?/2?/. About 2/3 kills of our team had my assist stammped on but 2 things were a bit hard:

    1) aiming healing death wave thing
    2) TURN SPEED omfg :> its indeed not handy. i turned to slowstunlawl pestilence and got stunned in the face. ;S

    BUT a very nice guide!!:O

I didn't realize Nome's wisdom was actually a powerful item, much less good on demented. It seems like some of the stuff doesn't really fit into the EM metagame.
I think that astrolabe is quite useful to have early game since the 2x heal can save your carries for lategame.

Very very useful, with a good sense of humor intermixed. Plus you warned me from using sorcerer's ring, which I'd usually been running on Demented because I didn't know what better to do.

Ring isn't a bad item, it's just not as good as Nome's and Astrolabe for him. Wave and Storm work best when your in a big crowd, usually pushing a lane/tower. And this "crowd happiness" gets even more intense with crowd-happy item effects/auras. The bigger the crowd, the better. Also, you want the crowd happiness to last as long as possible, so you get items that keep the crowd alive and strong.

Sometimes, I'm in a push, and I barely know wtf is going on. I'm in this huge crowd of heros and creeps, just spamming whatever is up, even resorting to casting on the hero icons along the side of the screen based on who looks hurt, without even knowing where they are, because I don't have time to try and find them. Any enemy that wants to pick me out of the crowd to focus me has to dig through the giant mess of highly armored units all around me.

By comparison, Ring of Sorcery only helps a subset of your crowd, the hero population, and doesn't (directly) affect survivability. I might get it after the other two... but even then, I'd probably try Barrier Idol first.

You really have to pound the idea into your pubmates heads "I am the AoE/Aura God, all five stay close to me, we ride creeps, we steamroll that tower now" & rinse/repeat.

Your whole style of play "not knowing where people are" is totally unfitting for a shaman. You CANT play shaman effectively without knowing exactly where everybody is because your most powerful skill is positional. You'd be better of trying as jeraziah or nymph in that case.

Ring of sorcery is NEVER-EVER a good item on shaman. Total waste of money on an item any other hero is more qualified to carry. With your int gain and cheap spells, its a crime to make it.

Holy **** Joe! I never realized you had a guide written! And a superb one at that too!
Grats on the premium . Like Nome said, don't forget us!

I recently started playing Dsham when I'm alone and his heal + astrolabe are enough to keep pretty much the entire team alive in teamfights. This is going to help so much. Thanks a bunch

amazing guide, really complete and teaches a complex hero in-depth.

If you ask me for what I would add, maybe a small section on how to perform in the various stages of the game, how to babysit, how and when to gank, how to act in teamfights, etc. Not much to add here, because you already touched most aspects of these in your other sections, but clarifications would be nice

This guide is excessively perfectionist. Real pros just run in and "qwer", dying shortly after.

    Kidding, obviously.

I might actually try this hero some time, if/when I get tired of Panda :P

Try this hero with panda as lanemate. It should be banned really. Flick(minus armor plus tossing enemy hero into your mobs) followed by a heal is a crime.

    Retail will fix it
    Realignment patch will fix it
    DotA2 will fix it

Inactive due to uni, also calling it right now: DotA2 comes out and sells power, SC2 DotA by Blizzard releases and is good, and it becomes the next big thing.

It doesn't need a whole section.

Very good guide, my god, finally someone who understands the shaman.
I read so many "guides" which only have some crappy items suggestions.

The part about the healing-wave is awesome. People often ask me "why does that healing-spell so much damage?!", perhaps they'll understand now.

The skillbuild is standard. I agree, that you cannot change your skills much. Arcane hide is very powerfull and i am getting the jeebies if there's a shaman without it.

I got 1 point, you should have mentioned. You say, that you get 1/2 scarabs and 1 is for the ring. You shouldnt build the ring, until you can build the whole nomes wisdom, because your manareg is higher with a scarab. I only get a ring if there is a specific hero on my lane, who benefits from it.

I like your itemsbuild. It is solid and its consistent.
I am one of those, who start with 2 crowns and 1 totem. 1 scarab from the outpost and a health trinket for the first part of astrolabe. Usualy i stay in lane until lvl 10.
My itembuild concentrates on armor. Therefor i have 2 builds:
    1. astrolabe + frostfieldplate
    2. astrolabe + nomes wisdom

It is true, that you need a lot of mana, but it works for me. I rarely find myself in a teamfight without mana. Either my team wins or we have to flee. It's very hard in random games to convince your team, that you are going to heal them. If someone drops below 50%, he will run, despite the fact, that you'll him.

    (Demonic Breastplate:
One time, i was able to build astrolabe, frostfield plate and demonic breastplate. 3 heroes weren't able to kill me and i even killed one of them bevore they ran away. It was one of those 60/50 teamkills games)
