ya, it's pretty splendid
nah, although splendid, i don't love this idea.
Alright, so this is more of a tenative suggestion than anything - I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea, but I'd like to hear what you all think of it. Personally, i play a lot of initiation heroes, like behe, like magmus, like legionare - and personally it annoys the balls off of me how you NEED a portal key for those heroes to be a valid part of the team (same goes with deadwood and pebbles, but portal keys are alot easier to farm on them). So my item idea was quite simply something that works very similarly to portal key, and eventually upgrades into a portal key, but is a cheaper, more early game alternative - especially for support initiators to use.
Portal claws would have twice the cooldown and mana cost as portal key, work the same way (in that it couldn't be used after a getting attacked for 3 seconds), have slightly less range, and most importantly - ONLY BE ABLE TO BLINK TO A TARGETED ENEMY HERO - with much the same effect as night hound's leap. It would cost 1000 gold to buy, and then if you bought it again, it would upgrade into a portal key. This would be alot easier to farm for a magmus or a behe, or even to quick farm after he gets his helm for like a legionare, pesti, or moraxus, but it would still be a decently big item, and not incredibly effective in the laning phase given the mana cost and limitations on it (so basically, once you got this, you'd immediately stop laning)
I think it could be a good addition to heroes of newerth...
1000 gold item that works the same as pk, only with twice the cool down, twice the mana cost, and only blinks to enemy heroes - upgrades to pk.

See the reason a portal key function is balanced is only because the heroes that thrive so much off of it need to save that overwhelming 2150 gold early game, making the item balanced. Good try but portal key is something that should simply be left untouched.
Check out my Storm Maul. New item that combines Thunder Claw and Brutalizer!: http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/sh...d.php?t=295859
