Hi there
Im new to the game - spend 2 days learning it.
I watched some videos and read some stuff on these forums.
I even read how to join a game... Now; lets take a look at that.
Noobs Only |*Not easy game | All heroes
Thats a good one for a starter - so I pick that one.
Now im ingame and have to learn the game and how the mechanics works - ofcourse I spend some time on some heroes @ practice but its never the same.
Everybody is trying their best - but still there are some fked up morons that flame people, trying to kick them etc. How is that possibly fair?
People is trying hard, REALLY hard to play - but the only thing they get smacked back is; "You ****in noob, retard, leave the game!!!"
EVENTHOUGH its a "noob ONLY server".
Some that is more experienced - try to tell them what to do instead, it really helps! I learned ALOT by a guy called Newtypes - he wasnt flaming but helped me along the way and I got into the game ALOT more in 25 minutes. We even won that match.
How coldblooded is people behind their screens?!
Every new player will experience the worst of the community when starting out. Keep playing, ignore the flamers and eventually you'll get better.
When you're past the "noob game" level the community does get better, though you'll still encounter some asshats it's nowhere as bad as when you first start out.
Just keep playing, it gets better-
It really becomes clearer each time a thread like this is made that the worst the skill of the morons, the more they flame and complain. I guess its that classical human behavior of blaming everything on the other person.
If you're a noob, after a few games your PSR will reflect your true skill. When you join/host noob games, you should be teamed up with other noobs.
Flaming and calling others in a noob only game just makes people took stupid. People forget that they were once worse than everyone, didn't know what to do, and relied on help from others.
I suggest finding a clan of noobs, or adding other noobs to your friends list and play with them. People are less likely to flame and more likely to help if they know they'll be playing with you again.
when in doubt, host your own games. kick anyone that you think might be joining just to "stomp", ie players whose level seem greatly higher than yours
PSR does not reflect skill...
PSR (Public Skill Rating) Only reflects how well you work as a team in public games, If it is skill that you wish to see look at their assists, Kills, and Deaths. And if you truly want to go a tad deeper look at their Creep Score as well.
In my opinion, PSR is just a waste and so is auto-balancing. No matter what the teams will not get balanced until you dive deeper into the stats and sort the teams out from there.
It is currently impossible to measure skill in HoN at this point in time. Any method anybody gives you can be debunked easily.
K : D? Pick a PuB star hero
Assists: Pick Keeper, behemoth, tempest, demented shaman, Dark lady, etc.
Creep kills: Go jungle
Creep denys: Pick Keeper or a ranged with a nice animation like Demented/Succubus/etc.
XP/Min: EM
Gold/Min: EM
PSR: PuB star or PuB stomp
It just doesn't work. As a general rule, only under 1500 PSR is even reasonably reliable. Then again, Anari is probably one of the best team players I know, and he's only 1369.
It's a tough game right now, but hold out and you'll be glad you did. This game will keep you busy for as long as World of Warcraft, except this game is actually enjoyable.

I am of the firm opinion that subtracting "raging stupidity" from anyone's voice can only cause them to sound more like myself.
Just take the flames, then once u get better you can flame new people!! =D

Retail will fix it
Realignment patch will fix it
DotA2 will fix it
Inactive due to uni, also calling it right now: DotA2 comes out and sells power, SC2 DotA by Blizzard releases and is good, and it becomes the next big thing.
You are you supposed to get your KD up if you play support heroes? Unless you're some sort of super player who is playing in Noobs Only games, there is no way you will reliably get your KD up. If you somehow manage to do so, you're doing it wrong, or are not playing at your level of skill.....
See you may think youre the only one going through the treacheries of being a noob, but we ALL were noobs at some point. we've all gotten flamed and yelled at and maybe even kicked. youre not alone. just keep playing and after a couple weeks you will be the on that starts getting annoyed with the brand new player on your team thats feeding the opposing carry![]()

2 days oh shucks , took me 6 months to master dota alone.
In games, its hard to tell if you are just new and so dont know the game as well, or if you are just bad. It may help to let people know that you are new, though it can make matters worse too. I typically help out and suggest stuff to new players, as they are usually willing to take it. Bad players however often just throw any suggestions back in your face, so in most cases if someone is bad, I wont help or offer suggestions.
It definitely is a rough introduction to a game, but I believe its definitely worth it. Its a fantastic game, so much fun. Best suggestion I can give is find a few characters you like and learn to play them. That way you can always offer something to the team. Practice using their abilities in your own created Practice games, really helps you get used to the range/cast time/effectiveness of abilities. Once you know those few heroes, you can at least play them with some skill in a proper game. Youll learn the rest as you go.
i believe a tutorial mode is seriously needed.
or just a section for beginners only? and dont say "oh well just make a game called noobs only"
psh nobody listens to that, all they care about is getting there kills up
The main problem I find with trying to learn is that there are two types of "noob only" games, those started by people genuinely trying to learn and those started by smurfs (with or without buddies) to stomp noobs. Sadly many people like to win more than they like a challenge and even games in the first category can also quickly be filled by smurfs.
These are the best ways to learn, in descending order of effectiveness:
1. Find someone to teach you.
Check out the mentoring system. There are good guys out there who will try to help. You will occasionally find randomly helpful people in pub games but it's very rare. Having a feeder in your team is demoralising and frustrating so unless you start the game with the mentality that you want to help someone, you'll rarely be in the frame of mind to give good advice.
As a newbie, even an intermediate level mentor can be of great assistance and give you someone to lane with and communicate with. You cannot underestimate the confidence that brings and the effect that confidence can have on your game. Another advantage to not having a "pro" mentor is both of you have a decent chance of actually playing together in a pub.
2. Start your own games
This will allow you to filter out the pub stompers on your own. Often helps to advertise "AB" and "No locks" as this will discourage large groups of friends or clanners taking over your game. When you're totally new you might be a bit intimidated by the abbreviations used and hosting your own game can mean it takes longer to get it going but it does even the odds somewhat and increase the chance of an environment where you can actually learn ie a balanced game. My pet peeve are people who come in and demand x slots and even ask you to kick others to make room for their friends. Most of the time I would kick those, people with such bad manners are often flamers who will not be fun to play with, whether on your team or on the other side.
3. Join pub games for noobs
This almost contradicts what I said above but the fact is you can't join the higher skill level games because you will either get kicked or spoil the fun of everyone on your team. What you need to do when joining pubs is learn to spot the signs of a pub stomp and avoid them as far as possible.
It's fairly common sense but here are some tips:
a) avoid "no ab" games ESPECIALLY "noob only no ab" games
- I have yet to see one of those that wasn't a bunch of clanners/friends looking for nubs to stomp - sure maybe some of these guys are really not particularly good but 5 newbies working as a team generally perform better than 5 random pubbers (mostly intermediate or below, the host will know how to kick the truly good players)
b) watch for sneaky hosts
- There are a lot of dirty tricks hosts use to stack the game to their advantage incuding moving those with better Kratios / PSR to their team, kicking those with good stats on the other team, trying to start the game with no AB if their own side's win % is high, locking the "good players" on their side just before balancing or even swapping players AFTER AB is done. Don't afk before the game has started and be prepared to dc during the countdown if you see this happening. Some might consider this a losing attitude but personally I don't think you learn anything when the other side is overwhelmingly better than you and hosts that start these types of games are also the most likely to start taunting you in chat when they're winning and like to drag out the game so they can pump their stats or just mock you more. Complete waste of time.
c) look for games with no locks or random teams
To conclude, the #1 tip I can give you if you decide to stick with the game is remember what you went through when you started out and tell yourself never to do what those who victimised you did.
generally, just stick with it. You are probably the 5th person ive seen posting this exact same thread in as many weeks. You are not alone. One day soon the noob army will make its voice heard. This game needs us more than we need it, please dont get discouraged.
I still am a noob, but ive progressed pretty far from where you are probably at right now. Only took me 4-5 weeks and more **** than ive ever put with in a game in my life. Yes its hard, but all we can do is pray that S2 is aware of the problem and intends to do all they can to make it easier for people like us to learn.
Remember that this is still beta (not even open beta yet i dont think) and they have bigger priorities than making sure you dont get pub stomped by dickheads and flamed by assclowns. Its the internet after all; the same anonymity that gives those players the balls to say stuff like that to you should also let you shrug it off. Just make sure you listen when its real advice, or you will deserve everything you get.
