Shield of the Five is a decent item early game, but since removing it from Astrolabe recipe, it's become a fairly useless item, basically becoming an 800 gold recipe for Plated Grieves, which doesn't even propagate the +2 armor to heroes. (Speaking of which, the +2 active cast armor it gives is far outclassed by Ring of the Teacher's +3 passive armor making the item useless as a stand-alone item.)
Basically, there's no reason to get the item anymore. On it's own the Shield of the Five outclassed by a cheaper item that has build potential, and the only item the SotF builds into never lets you have it in you inventory.
So: My question is: Are there any plans to touch up this item? Either buff it or add it to some recipes? Cuz as it is, there's really no reason to pick it up at all.

There's no immediate plans to adjust Shield of the Five or it's role in game. This is more tied to the fact that there are other things being given attention over it right now. You will be finding out more about this in the future.
However, Shield of the Five certainly will be looked at later on.
