    How to make twitch.tv play in VLC/Mplayer?

    The flash stream for Honcast is rather bad and uses a lot of CPU power, so it'd better if I could watch it in a native player. Does anybody know how to do it?

    Thanks

    PS: Not offtopic material, it's about Dreamhack and the game.

    Afaik you cant "move" an internet player into your own program such as VLC, but they've done it on the HoN client, so VLC might have ways to do it, your best bet is to check VLC's website and consult FAQ's/forum.

    j.tv is protected by API layers so there's no easy way to get a straight smtp link to the content, an people being smart about it didn't give an answer.

    i heard you can sniff the rmtp with tools like wireshark or URLSnooper
    have tried doing so but did not succeed/was too lazy to search for it any longer.

    I used this tutorial: http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4148

    pretty much. Linux has an rtmpdump command which can be piped into mplayer

    $ eix rtmp
    [I] media-video/rtmpdump
    Available versions: 2.3 (~)2.4 **9999 {gnutls polarssl ssl}
    Installed versions: 2.4(20:23:00 12/08/11)(ssl -gnutls -polarssl)

    Description: Open source command-line RTMP client intended to stream audio or video flash content

    Actually, the thing in the hon client is a full-fledged browser based on the Awesomium (yes, really!) integrated browser. If you know how, you can trick it into showing the full twitch page in HoN TV and you can actually browse the web ingame.

    So the answer is, you might be able to extract it from the twitch page, but without hacking I don't think you can use a different player.
    There's no "I" in team. There's a "me" though, if you jumble it up.

    If you are still interested in a native solution (hardware acceleration...) you can try out my script. It's made in hurry but should work. Just open start.bat and set "vlcpath" to whatever your vlc.exe is located in, optionally set or unset "username" to a twitch.tv channel name.

    It seems that some channels won't load, perhaps because they require login. Is there any way to fix this?

    Edit: I have no idea why some channels won't load. I've PM'ed you on the matter tho.
