How to play in serious 5v5 games

Me and my friendclan played for the first time a 5v5 that wasn't pub, that is 5 people talking irl vs 5 people talking irl.. The 5 we met was skilled and we have never played dota or anything else than public. We have played about 200 games each in public but well..

To be a good clan/team what should we think about when playing? How should we play? The other team raped us at laning which made us stay together all five of us getting raped/losing xp anyway when they laned - raped us whenever we tried to lane/gank the lane.

Basically we had no idea what was doing, what we were going to do to prevent this or anything.. We played puppet, jeraziah, blacksmith, torturer and arachna. Is something wrong vs that lineup?

Our enemy heroes was pyromancer, moon queen, pebbles, pestilence and succubus.

Ended up with them winning with 60-12 or something..

Is there any basic guide / tips how to play as a clan / get the teamplay going / what to focus on and so on in serious games? Maybe not against that lineup in particular but mainly what to do and how to play?

it needs to be updated due to changes to some heroes but its generally correct,=.

I don't see how you were able to get outlaned with that lineup.
You should be getting raped during teambattles because you only have 1 reliable aoe and he will fold after being focused for a second or two, while they have 3 aoe stuns, 2 aoe nukes, 2 disables, 4 targeted nukes and reasonable dps from pest and maybe MQ if played well.

Though, again, your lineup is great for the early game and you must have ****ed up badly if you weren't crushing them for the first 10-15 minutes.

There are no guides or such for competitive play, it's always been a "figure it out for yourself" kind of game. This game in particular is always changing and new ideas will always keep emerging, leaving the game to interpretation. It's all in how you play or perceive it.

There are plenty of tournament matches recorded and posted here:

Best advice I can give ya, is keep playing with your teammates through the good and bad.. Oh and rethink and talk about a game after a win/loss to discuss what you felt went wrong/right that game, you'd be surprised how much that makes a difference.

Good start would be watching top level games.

There's a bunch from someone's perspective, especially look for the ones where they have the Ventrillo recorded.

I'll let better players rape your team composition.

puppet jer blacksmith tort arachna is more a gank lineup. Jeraziah is useless here as well, since its such a gank based lineup. Most likely, your ganking failed due to the opponents being able to ward up properly and such force teamfight situations much earlier, in which the opposing team would win. You have absolutely no teamfight power except jer and tort.
These two can be focused down quite rapidly especially with the other teams lineup,
pyromancer, moon queen, pebbles, pestilence and succubus.

This team has massive magic damage, as well as late game potential. I dont see what succubus is doing in there other than their succubus player is really good as succubus as it should have very little synergy with their team. Their team can play in both ganks and teamfights, and each of these heroes have disables. They can chain disable your team, as well as easily countergank with their lineup. They can always get the initiate (your team has no teamfight initiator) and unless your players are insanely good, there is absolutely no way your team can win just based on lineups.

Your team just picked strong picks, but these picks have no synergy.

If you replaced jeraziah w/ demented shaman, blacksmith with magmus, your team would be a gank lineup that'd be much stronger than what it was. It also wont get completely rolled in team fights since you have 2 initiates, and a better team makeup.

Truthfully, you just need to play more high level matches, determine what your team is good at, and bad against; pick and ban accordingly, and have better synergy between your heroes. Your hero picks individually are strong, but they all serve roles in different lineups. Arachna is there for a gank based lineup, jeraziah is for teamfight, blacksmith puppet are gank, tort is more for teamfights rather than for ganking. Their team was teamfight based, but had heroes that could gank as well.

Try thinking up good lineups which usually consists of 1 hard carry, 1 backup carry, 2 supporters, 1 ward *****. Be sure to have good lanes and lots of stuns/burst damage. If you guys like Puppet try:

    Puppet
    Demented
    Tempest
    Plague
    Jerz

That's 4 intel and 1 str based intel, with puppet as carry. Would be hard against a team with SW or Chronos + AoE stunner lke Mag or Behemoth. Team is too sqishy...

You should just play better. Playing better includes picking better heroes, as yours were sub optimal, in my opinion. Also, your skill level was most likely lower.

In serious 5v5 games Jerry and Tempest are always banned...

    Retail will fix it
    Realignment patch will fix it
    DotA2 will fix it

Inactive due to uni, also calling it right now: DotA2 comes out and sells power, SC2 DotA by Blizzard releases and is good, and it becomes the next big thing.

Well team play is more of a chemistry thing, you gotta figure out how each other play and how you can help eachother. Also you need to be able to know when to gank and when to back up.
