    Exercise 8 Making Items Matter

    Exercise 8 Making Items Matter
This is an exercise in creativity. Its only goal is to fuel the imagination and test ones creativity. Please post your entries in the hero drafts section with [exe8] in the title.
    The Challenge
Make a hero whose abilities utilize items in some form. For example your hero could make items, equip items, have a backpack with extra item slots, or uses some aspect of the item like its stats or cost. This doesn't include item related mechanics or semi related things we already have like increased base damage, disarming some one, or perplexing some one. (Note: this exercise isn't about making a hard carry like chronos or dark lady but making skills that use/interact with items in a new way.
    Drasha's Rant
This idea originated after skyve's first bcl contest. I made a hero who mechanically used items for his abilities and wanted to play with the idea more. Items are a central part of the game but almost no heroes have actually interacted with them in an interesting way. This is a huge design space that has been left untapped. So for this exercise go for crazy ideas and explore what you can do with items.
    Ability Brain Dump
    • Hero who can wield* any item with by dragging the item onto the ability slot. (You would have an active component that would do some thing based on the item you are wielding or just make the wielded item benefit you much more then other items.)
    • Backpack: gives your hero extra item slots
    • Brew: makes a potion (or any item) that you or ally heroes can carry and activate for a heal.

Is that a challenge? Then it's been accepted! Here's a hard carry that utilizes items in a unique way (for the most part).

The hero can of course be a hard carry he just needs to use items more mechanically then just scales really well with items.

The first thing that come to mind is Alchemist by MaTzOr. However this should be given a thorough thought.

I always wanted to make an Alchemist hero that was able to create potions

Still not sure if such a thing would be really balanced though.

If its an alchemist, he should be able to use an ability on health/mana pots to make them not dissapear by damage, and perhaps enhance their effect.

I made a hero some time ago that used this kind of idea, in which a support-like hero could change stats (including those gained by items) with an enemy hero. I think that's a very interesting mechanic. He also has a passive that refreshes his item cooldowns upon a killing blow.

Would actually be a pretty decent hero imo
