Yes, let HoN become more noob friendly.
No, I will tell you why.
Why do I suggest this?
I think by adding this, HoN will become more beginner / noob friendly.
The suggestion
Create a third option next to Solo Matchmaking and Team Matchmaking. This option is called No stats Matchmaking.
Reason
When being a new player, you'll want to play as soon as possible. So the first thing you do is click on PLAY NOW! not knowing there was a tutorial (the button is kind of small), next thing you do is click SOLO Matchmaking. Because you are new, don't have a friend on HoN, you don't know any better. Next thing you know you immediately start a game and you don't know what to do.
Even when going through the tutorial you will still lack a lot of necessary skills and experience for a normal matchmaking. And some people won't click on public game as the button isn't coloured, so adding this option in the PLAY NOW! seems like the best solution.
In your first games you will perform bad probably and your mmr might drop to 1300 and lower. You start to dislike the game after a couple of times and simply stop playing. By making the games for beginners no stat games, they won't have to care about these things yet and they'll be able to start climb the ladder when they are finally ready for it.
As said in the paragraph above, people can easily drop below 1300 and might need some good practices without needing a host as f2p not verified players can't host a no stat game. by adding noobs (lower mmr players), the beginners can play freely and practice, as the waiting time will be decreased.
- Thank you insane2k for reminding me that the waiting time could get a bit long, when only beginners would be able to use this button.
What should the new button look like
It has the same size as the other icons, so it doesn't get neglected.
Make the symbol something funny and attractive to click on like: "NEWERTH IS RECRUITING, YOU!"
above the text are 2 heroes or just one, pointing right at you.
I made an example in paint with Uncle Sam. I know the icon doesn't look good, but that's because paint can sometimes ruin the quality of a picture and that's also the reason why I couldn't add the text of "newerth is recruiting, you!" <_<
What does the button do?
It will start the tutorial or at least ask if you want to play the tutorial first.
- When clicking no it should ask, are you sure? (you never know for whatever reason they clicked no)
- When clicking yes it plays the tutorial.
- After the tutorial, when you are victorious in the tutorial, it will ask you if you want to play in a real match. When answering no it will again ask: "are you sure?" this way players who don't have the time for a game afterwards can still quit after the tutorial.
- After the question / after the tutorial (= victory + yes), it will directly search a no stat game just like a normal matchmaking.
- Clicking it again after the questions above was answered too, it will just be a search button like the solo and team matchmaking
It will only search for players that clicked this button, so they won't have to deal with SOLO or TEAM matchmaking players.
There are requirement to be able to click on this button
- You need less than 5 stat games
Why 5 games?
- This way average players and pro players can't stomp new players here. The mode is also no stats so they don't want to play this mode that much anyway.
- With these 5 games margin, they are able to test their skill in a SOLO or TEAM matchmaking. (=> if the new player made some friends.) If they see that they don't have enough skill yet, they can still go back to no stat games.
info for 2., The player will get a notice on how many games he can still play before he can't play no stat MM any more.
- You need a mmr below 1350 (or 1300).
These players could use some practice game against players from their own league and could also be be non-verified F2P players. F2P players can't make a no stat game on their own, so they are forced to either get a low mmr to become verified (= level 5) or they are bound to other players hosting a game for noobs only (and everybody can join this game / even trolls or smurfs).
Why wouldn't trolls or smurfs join these games with a new F2P account?
The answer is rather simple. These players are mostly hunting free mmr and nice looking stats OR they want to create a verified F2P account and work their way up the ladder like the new players are doing atm. But because 1650~1900 mmr and higher players are also doing this, beginners and noobs get stomped too a low mmr.
In no stats, everybody just plays for fun and stats aren't involved, you can argue there needs to be a leaver-% as it is MM, but I wouldn't add it for the sake of the beginners.
There should also be a mechanism added too this system. This mechanism searches if the players has a higher mmr account.
How?
- Everybody knows each computer has a MAC-address and this address is unique for each internet connect/computer. The system will search if a specific address has logged on with higher accounts before. When I mean higher I mean +1700 players.
Why +1700?
You never know if the player got a huge mmr drop or not, so if a players once had a mmr of 1699 and dropped back too let's say 1550. This person might want to create a new account and train a bit in No stats MM.
This is about the entire concept I had in mind, may HoN become more noob friendly.
Please tell me what you think about this topic.
+ Thank you insane2k for the reply

The idea might be nice, but you have to think about how long this will take to find any players. Even in common Matchmaking you might have to wait up to 10 Minutes depending on your MMR Rating, what will happen if you press a Button that will allow ONLY players of <5 Stat Games ?
Imo just give new players an explanation of what "no stats" games are and where to find them. Oh and remove this PLAY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111 Button, it's retarded. As stated in OP every new player will press that button instead of the tiny Public Games one, because they just don't know any better.
Anyway, I like the thought behind your post. Free Bump and thumbs up![]()
If S2 would advertise just a bit more, than maybe they'll have a big enough beginner joining stream.
But thinking realistic here, yes this might happen, I might have to add that players below a certain mmr can also use this mode. These players might also want to play some no stat mmr for practice and they might not overpower beginners. (I'm thinking about below 1350 mmr players.)
But I'm afraid when doing this, that even less players will use "public game". The most games you see in there are "only noob" games. Though this change could be beneficial for them as well none the less. (if I add the < 1350 mmr change)
Edit: It's added

just added: Why wouldn't trolls or smurfs join these games with a new F2P account?
To inform people why this suggestion might work and to prevent possible T-downs of course.
This is a BUMP with extra explanation. *.*

As for as I'm concerned, any public games rated or not IS no stats MM.
