Staff vs Spellshards
I'm too lazy to test myself but between a Staff and Level 3 Spellshards which does the most damage with Magmus's combo (ult+blink+stun) and by how much?
:StaffOfTheMaster: - $4300
Spellshards lvl 3 - $4575

Imo I'd take a sotm. Why? Because the extra HP helps to survive when initiating like that when 10+ spells are flinging around.
Imo, when it's time to get that kind of items, i would go for spellshards because of the cooldown reduction. It will help immensively more than some extra ulti waves when it comes to the point where you more or less just jump in to get barrier idol'ed

There are 10 kinds of people.
Those who understand binary code and those who not.
my suggestions:

Spellshards...

And never any balance patches!
You should've posted this in mechanics, in general you get peoples opinions rather than facts.
sotm gives him more ulti aoe, one dmg wave more and cd to 80 sec
spells increase the dmg depending on enemies magic armor (it feels like its more dmg than sotm) and reduces the cd to 91 sec
Come on man, don't start the "Mechanics VS Opinion" again.
Mechanics can be used to show the output of a perfect scenario, taking calculated parts into consideration.
Opinions can be used to show a flawed output of a real-time scenario, where the math is as seen and the players behind the heroes are taken into consideration.
It's the CH conversation all over.
Magmus will have a advantage on paper with one item, but that won't mean it holds any truth to it when it comes to the direct situation.
It's like using mathematical and systematical view to determine the outcome of a soccer or football game.

Maybe I'm a old school magmus user but IMO I would get SOTM. The glowstone in the beginning helps u with the extra health and mana. It gives you an extra stun as well as a steambath. Pure magic output damage is spellshards but the staff will help u survive in the early going
can someone do the math already? pure damage increase
oombringer:
Spellshards doesnt effect ultimate only. his skills all gain the magic amour skipping (afaik) and reduced cooldowns.
i would say that spellshards would be better than sotm

Spellshards for pure damage. Staff if you want some survivability as well.
Here you go, I hope I got it right...
Rank 3 Staff boosted ult + rank 4 stun against a hero with standard magic armor (-24,8% damage reduction ) will do:
(280+12x110)x0.752 = 1600x0.752 = 1203,2 damage. (Yes the staff boosted ult hits you 12 times if you stand on top of magmus, I tested it 3 times).
Rank 3 ult + rank 4 stun + rank 3 spellshards against a hero with standard magic armor (spellshards makes it 0 reduction ) will do:
280+10x110=1380 damage.
The spellshards ult + stun combo does 176,8 more damage then the staff boosted ult + stun combo against a hero that has the standard magic armor. (5.50 = 24,8% reduction).
