You're going chalice or boots first, striders, and all your money will go to wards, you should only buy items when your wards are sold out. If you're team or host is mana dependant, sell the chalice for a mana ring, if not go astrolabe first. the tablet is good him they have channelers, but after labe i usually go nome's if no one else has bought it for the aura.
I love the harassing/denies-focus has in the laning stage of the game, and the last hits I get that I'm sure my partner won't only nets enough for Striders, Chalice, and a Ward or two. But according to you, that means I'm on the right track! I'll try to keep Nome's in mind too then. Thanks! ^^

Props to the OP for a nice post, useful tips and all.

My main annoyance with empath is that when I'm not playing her, she'll jump inside me and NEVER USE HER SPEED BOOST. Seriously, the kills I could have gotten. Q_Q

Does not work for solo matchmaking. Warning, attempting this without at least one competent friend to play with will result in horrible feeding and raging.

I know it varies from game to game, but generally, once I start getting gold in from assists, which do I go for first, :Stormspirit: or :TabletOfCommand:?

I also have had some bad luck, where the hero I jumped in dies and for some reason every time that happens, the whole other team ignores everyone else and just goes for me. What's the best thing to do in that situation? Which item(s) are best to get for Empath to best survive that situation?

    Thanks.
Why don't you tell me these things? I've been looking for someone to empathise with my kraken an Ra.

Honestly though? even if you don't have a melee carry, a well played Empath ( barring she has teammates that can utilize her ) is boon to any team. Jump in torturer and keep the chase up for impalement and torment. She's like a DoT Codex for a ganker (if you count all the drain from the link, the 50/s on the wall as well as the increased AS) Having a smart melee carry with an Empath on the team is like cheating!

Successful TakeMyBottle game today. Started Aluna mid with one, she almost got an immortal. I later gave one to Valk as well and placed like 14 wards at least.

OT: OP is right about a few things, but there's plenty more to add. Empath is one of my main heroes too.

    1. Be aggressive. you get massive extra damage and dps. Focus on autoattacking more than you normally would. you can quite often make enemies break and run with the shock of how hard you hit.

    2. go for towers. Again due to the huge damage. time is ticking, and it's often not worth waiting around for creeps. Make good use of the dps bonus by assaulting the nearest tower immediately after a genocide.

    3. Give chase! a good empath using the speed boost and wall will massively empower you to catch a fleeing enemy you normally couldn't reach. Don't give up the chase unless it's suicidal to continue

    4. Keep an eye on the empath timer. If you're in the line of fire ant it's about to run off, back out of there. the last thing you want to do is drop your squishy support into a bunch of enemies and feed them. you may be tanky enough to win 3v1, but she's not.
This man said it. I'd like to point out the most valuable hint he gives is number 4.

You have no idea how many deaths I have suffered as Empath because of this sole reason =(. And whose fault is it to blame? It's arguable, because Empath can choose to jump out of her host, but then her host might get angry for some various reasons.

Another thing I think people should do when they play with Empath in their team: Play as a team! If you see empath being chased and her wall is on cooldown and probably will get killed, run to her and stay in a 300 radius to allow her to get inside you. A good empath player will thank you and give you speed bosts so you two can run away together. As one.

As someone who has Empath as his 3rd most played, and wrote the 92% popularity Empath guide, "Walking Lifetube: Ultimate Empath" http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/heroe...w.php?gid=3343 I found this quite a good read and definitely a good guide for noobs at Empathary. However, I do notice there's one thing wrong with it.

Empath is viable during the whole game as soon as she hits 6. At the cost of 1 less target for the other team, you boost your carry's dps to just stupid ridiculous amount depending on their current attack speed.
Empath may shine post lvl 6, but pre-level 6 she is a force of nature. Her harass game is one of, if not the best in a 2v2 lane. As long as you focus on getting HP regen by an early :RefreshingOrnament: and maxing your aura first, not only does your carry become unharassable, but with your life drain you are almost unkillable, and can force your opponents out of the lane without ever needing consumables.

    Seriously community?
