I can't imagine the amount of smurfing that would result if you could get more silver coins on your main account by "referring" yourself and playing that account to verified level then by just playing normally...

100 gold is okay if they buy coins for $10.

But it should be 400 gold for $30 and 500 gold for $40 deal. This would make it on par with the old referral system.

Sometimes I wonder if S2 actually think their plans through before implementing them... Why would they ever encourage smurfing? It totally ruins the purpose of a matchmaking system

Why not? Some people find it fun to smurf, including people from S2 who admitted into doing it on reddit.
