Since we didn't have one, I've made an offtopic channel on S2Games IRC server.

Web-based IRC client with direct link to #offtopic (just choose a nick).
Some quick basics:
IRC nice simple chat protocol, its great for conference-like chatting. HoN's ingame chat is very irc-like as in commands are all proceeded via a /
eg;
/nick foo will change your nick to foo
/me is happy will emote *foo* is happy
/join #foo will join the room #foo (shorthand /j #foo)
to register you nick
/msg nickserv register PASSWD EMAIL

stand-alone:
mIRC http://www.mirc.com/ nagware but does work
pidgin http://www.pidgin.im/ does multiple chat protocols (including irc) - no convenient access to a range of irc commands
quassel http://quassel-irc.org/ (monolithic install) qt4 based client-core arrangement (good for setting up bouncers).
leafchat http://www.leafdigital.com/software/leafchat/ nice simple irc client
icechat http://www.icechat.net/site/ a bit fugly but its personal taste

Guys, IRC is from the time when I was young, and that was a very long time ago.
Today we use Facebook. Ever heard of it?
Go to work. Get married. Have some kids. Pay your taxes. Pay your bills. Watch your TV. Follow fashion. Act normal. Obey the law. And repeat after me: I AM FREE.
IRC is much better at large group chats than facebook.
It also uses a centralized locate to talk, this being the channel on the server. Rather than individually adding each other to talk we can all just join the channel and start chatting.
Also some people would rather not give their facebook out to every random person as it generally contains a significant amount of information about their life. For example you most likely don't know my real name, to you my name is Vahn which isn't my given name it's just the user name which I've chosen to go by.

Maybe Vahn was somebody in Stargate Atlantis, who was in your CAI and signature. I never watched SG: Atlantis, so I couldn't reject that hypothesis. :fors:I made that about 18 hours ago, but yes that is what it is.
