You have to gank around... Good ganks mean kills and wards cost only 100g... if you need to buy and upgrade courier and get more than 6 wards in a game as magmus, than your team shoulda picked a real freaking sup
that video is actually really good if you can jsut get someone to chain stun after you then you'll have time to channel your ult, other than that just gank a lot. buying a bottle and pushing vacant lanes at the right time with steam bath can also be beneficial to increasing your farm.
In this world gone mad, we won't spank the EM players, the EM players will spank us.
First of all you shouldnt be the main support! If you are (which happens to be that way in some pubs) you really might not get pk before ~35 mins or smthn like that.
otherwise gank a lot and dont think you are useless without pk, u still have an aoe stun and you can still stun in with your ult going of.
Thanks for reply!
I have an idea: jungling magmus. Max E over W and farm stacked neutral capms very fast and easy. Have you tried it out?
You're playing Magmus wrong if you're not getting any farm. You can steambath a whole wave for gold when not ganking, and when ganking you're getting them assist/kill gold.
My skill build:
Volcanic Touch 18/19/20/21
Loggers Hatchet (225)
Mark of the Novice/Gauntlet (150)
Runes of Blight (90)
Minor Totem x2 (106)
Core: Striders (800) / Chalice (625) / Mana Battery (200) / Lifetube (875)
With this core you can roam around pretty cheaply, chalicing a lot more often because of the lifetube, which can then be built up into HotBL before Portal Key if your farm is great, or Nullstone after if you need it.
Try to avoid feeling that you're only useful because of your ultimate/stun combo, really Magmus can be effective just stunning and steambathing, as long as you're setting up those kills.
EDIT: These are my personal builds because I feel comfortable with them. Just don't get hung up on using your ultimate, but if the chance is there, take it and don't hesitate.
Don't bother with this. E is a good skill but very situational, and you don't really need it to farm before level 18. Ganks really can be a source of money, in a game I had a few days ago I was 2/2/30 end score as Magmus, by the time I was 2/2/22 I had 350gpm from ganks and farming. A wave goes down in seconds in a steam bath, and as long as you're always running around the map whenever a gank fails/succeeds try to take those creeps.
Not a good source of money?
Roaming ganks will get you lots of gold from hero assists. While farm a wave or two everytime you can, which you can easily do whether you went steambath or volcanic touch.

Suggestion (Now Popular): Simple Smackdown Improvement
Another random fact - if you see an enemy team pickup bloodhunter, take magmus against him mid. He is a perfect counter. Stun BH then melt the creeps, denying him health and retaliation.

Magmus's team ending up losing, but it was not due to him if I remember correctly.

hag will get out cs'd by bh early game because her base is much lower and her scream doesn't do that much damage in the first few levels. A good bh will put her at a large exp disadvantage and will reach lvl 6 before hag does and kill her easily. Once hag gets lvl 6 or 7 though she can gank side lanes more effectively and regain the advantage in team fights
Seriously if you actually for some reason need to counter Bloodhunter mid just pick Legionaire and send him mid.
****s over any melee mid hero in a pub, they can't get near the creep.
You can use your ultimate before you get PK too - try this on 2 or 3 guys, in ganks. Go in the woods, make sure they don't see you coming. Try finding a place near the lane, where your stun can reach them. If you have a slower or stunner (you most probably will have) on the lane you're trying to gank, tell them to initiate, when they land their spell, cast your ultimate, then use your stun. This hero wasn't built based on PK, he can cast his ultimate, and use his stun to get near his enemies and get as many waves on them as possible. It's called synergy ^^. Same goes for Steambath - at level 4, it has ~2 seconds till you become visible after you stop the channel. Your ultimate has 2.1 seconds cast time (I think), so you can take advantage of that. It depends on the situations - for example if you're trying this against Pyromancer (has AoE stun, can interrupt your Steambath channeling) use Steambath only after he misses/lands his stun. If you're low, he'll probably hang around, waiting for his cooldown - use this time to your advantage, cast ultimate and then wait till it's done; after the channeling bar's gone, cast ur stun, and they'll get a nice surprise. So, it may be a little difficult, but with good teammates, your ultimate can be just as effective. Blink may be core in 5v5 teamfights but you can use ur ultimate on 2 or 3 guys for the lanes till you get blink.
