2) Lycan Wolves have lower Base Attack Time, which makes them attack a lot faster with the attack speed Aura compared to War Beast.
3) War Beast Howl only buffs units currently alive, Lycan's is a global aura, so resummoning wolves or using Necrobook after using Howl is no problem.
4) Abyssal Blade
5) Corpses don't block neutral respawns, making him a lot faster at jungling.
I don't think 3-5 are that important, but medallion is a big one. Lower attack time is another, and lack of unit walking when Lycan ults (he just gets a smaller unit model) means you can still block opponents with wolves and lycan too.
I think one of the bigger reasons, though, is burst is higher in HoN. Even the hard carries of heroes of newerth can full to dead a hero in 1-2 seconds (Zephyr, Silhouette, hell, even their sniper is much more capable of burst). This makes squishy melee carries, like Lycan, pretty unplayable. Notice that all HoN carries are either melee tanks or ranged power houses with high mobility. Lycan, even with max move speed, just can't perform the same as either of these.
They also have better support items in HoN. Mek is cheaper and builds out of a bracer. Force Staff gives stats. Nome's Wisdom is really good too, even heals them. Plated greaves give good armor to supports (but also good damage to Lycan's wolves, so this one is a wash). Even power supply is cheaper. So the people Warbeast would normally pick on have just a bit more survivability than in dota while at the same time having a lot more burst.
It's also because in HoN every freaking hero has a blink of some kind of escape mechanism. Lycan is good against heroes who can't get away (obviously) and many of the best DotA heroes such as Furion, Broodmother, Leshrac, etc. have no escape mechanisms making them easy food for Lycan. Meanwhile in HoN all the best heroes have some over-the-top escape mechanism which is infuriating for a Lycan player.
I think it says a lot about the balance of DotA that a hero without nukes, stuns, or disables, whose damage comes purely from his autoattacks, can still be viable. Even if Warbeast was buffed to the state of Lycan, I don't think he would ever come close to that level of play.
Naga is one of the best Lycan counters however. Her net goes through BKB and holds him in place for 5 seconds. Her ult also goes through BKB and can waste lots of time on his ultimate. If you combine the two together you can shave 12+ seconds off his ult and/or completely waste his BKB giving you the opportunity to stun/disable him before he can do any real damage.

As far as I know Naga Ultimate doesn't sleep BKB targets - which makes it insanely strong against them.
The Ulti AoE is good enough to sleep everyone (except for the BKB user) which results in him being in a 1on5 situation, while he can't even escape due to ensnare.
Like you said, if Naga's ult doesn't sleep people with BKB that's even better against Lycan than if it does.

Jesus, Naga early game is unkillable. Once I got vanguard and level 6 all I needed to do was carry a tp, if they tried to gank me I pressed used my ultimate and tped out. It just snowballed from there, after farming manta I could literally be in their base and not die.

Edit: Also, I have quiet enjoyed the fact that there is no concede system. I have enjoyed the quality of 99% of my games so far, where we have turned games which I thought lost and also lost games which I thought won. Whats your oppinion on the missing concede function?
Personally I think there needs to be a conditional concede function - like if you're 2 sets of rax down and they still have all their towers. The unfortunate thing about these games is that there's nothing forcing the enemy team to end the game, so they can just camp the fountain and make your life miserable if they want. That's one thing I like about League's Dominion mode btw, that when the game's over it ends quickly the enemy team can't troll you. I think fountain camping should be a reportable offense because in the absence of a concede function it's really just wasting your time.
Other than that small frustration, I love DotA 2. I've played probably a thousand hours of regular DotA, HoN, and LoL and DotA 2 blows them all out of the water in my opinion. I really like how almost the entire pool is viable and no hero (in my opinion) seems blatantly OP. Some heroes could probably use a small nerf but they're manageable and easy to counter; especially since you see them all the time.
Can't wait for The International 2.
I think it's nice to not be able to concede. I'm always the guy trying to tell the pessimistic pussies on my team to man up and give it a real try, but it's not very easy when I'm the only one downvoting the concede, so if I can't sway them I usually just give in. I've won lots of games where I was the only one who stopped us from conceding though, I think DOTA2's system might make the matching more accurate since it doesn't factor in how easily people give up. Then again I guess you might end up with the whole team going afk in the well instead, which is basically the same. I just realized I haven't played DOTA2 in months, gonna fire it up now and see if there are any cool new changes
