Yeah indeed, in these 2 pics they do look alike. Because the quality of that dota2 screenshot is so ****ing terrible it actually comes close to the terrishit gfx of LoL.
So you agree that art direction is similar, main difference is that Dota2 is of much higher quality?

i was under the impression that the gameplay is identical to dota 1 since it is a "port"

If all you guys going to judge games based on graphics MOBA style games aren't for you.
Me? I'm going to try playing dota2 before I judge it. Did the same with HoN haven't regret it. S2 might make me regret it soon coz of the direction they're taking the game into. We'll see.

Also with the way the ranking system works on gosugamers.net(which is how a lot of teams get popular, people just look at the top 5 and start watching their replays), the Chinese teams gets their inflated rating W/L, then when they beat up on each other in China it gives that other Chinese team even more rating.

They're overrated and quite frankly a liability in terms of entertainment, Dota2 should cater more to the action-style game play since that's what spectators want to see. No one wants to watch this Chinese-click-creep-when-low-hp-all-game garbage except Chinese homer fanboys(I WAVE MY FLAG FOR VICTORY).
    Oh good God.

Chinese teams don't gank as heavily and choose to focus on farming because ganking is easily turned into a waste of time and potential feed for the enemy team due to counterganks and general awareness, while farming in a perfect environment has far more successful outcomes than it has failed ones.

So basically, Chinese DotA isn't action packed because the players are too aware and skillful to allow it to be action packed. The few times they've been caught off guard (Like DTS in WCG last year did to EHome), the game was intense and the Chinese adapted (however not successfully) to the European gank/push heavy style.

Which one has better gameplay HoN or LoL? HoN
Which one is more successful? LoL
How is LoL more successful? Because they got bigger player base and avarage game hours are 10 times higer than in HoN and also higher than World of Warcraft.
So if anything, it only makes sense that Valve wanted graphics looking closer to LoL, to steal their players, since Valve cares more about profit(which is obvious) and cares less for gameplay and response from community.

huh.. they shoudln't say "live game in progress" and then not stream the actual game. either they want to hide how embarassing it looks, or there isn't a game in progress. either way.

I really don't understand why they would pull so much publicity for the game when it is "pre-beta." Why have a 1 million dollar prize for the number one team if you're showing off something that is so unpolished and incomplete? It is like they're attempting to kill the fans hopes.

Indeed, but it rarely results in insane amounts of kills, or teamfights initiated upon silly player mistakes. Chinese teams will 9/10 times back off from a push they're uncertain of instead of going through with it, just to take one example. We've seen that plenty just today, and in particular in the first game between iG and EHome.
