If anything, it's S2 that should be worried. HoN has a serious problem, and that's a fatal lack of a strong central thesis. In the beginning, HoN was marketed to us as the authentic, hardcore DotA experience--DotA with smackdowns and every conceivable kind of stat-tracking (MMR/PSR, KDR, etc.), with matchmaking and a better UI. But somewhere along the line it feels like it stopped being that; maybe the people at S2 saw DotA 2 looming large over the horizon and got scared, or maybe they saw the size of LoL's playerbase and grew jealous. But it's undeniable that HoN's recent changes--casual mode, the clunky new shop interface, the goblin shop, etc.--have been aimed at the kind of casual players that LoL is teeming with.

All while still adding new heroes and items to compensate or stabilize competitive play, competitive mode, ladder... Both kinds of additions are not mutually exclusive.

On the other hand, if they focused on hardcore-only features like league and tournaments people will be less bound to play (only a few have enough time to be a semi-pro), will leave for the "fun and quick" stuff, comp would have less spectators, etc...it's a circle.

Indeed he was. The team he was in lost 90% of the time.

I've only seen wins by teams that had Techies recently, Waga from Drdz plays some superb solo Techies and btw doesn't level up Suicide until lategame.

So you just said HoN is slow and boring because obviously HoN has the same gameplay as DotA.


DOTA2 will have a great player base as said, I'm sure of that. I'm positive they will beat HoN's account sales by far. Many HoN players will play both, most of the DotA players will switch and some LoL players will try it out as well as some totally new players.

Will play whatever I feel during the time, HoN when I want to play it, DotA2 when I want to play that.. Let's just wait and see what they show us at Gamescom first.

i'll never ever play dota2. there are two reasons for this: icefrog and valve.

the main reason is valve though and how they acted towards loyal customers in the past.

at first, i read the title of this thread, and the title of the article. it says the release dating is coming this fall. as in releasing the release date. and i thought to myself, sweet jesus, why would you do that?

and then i read the article. and realized the title of the article and this thread have an extra word. the word "coming".
