    RA: Spellshards or Mock?

    Hello

After getting the "standard" tank gear boots, shamans and hotbl, what do you think is the better dmg item for him. Spellshards or Mock?

Spellshards improve every ability of him, even his passive AE damage and reduces all cooldowns. A reduced ultimate is very welcome for this hero..

A further big advantage of spellshards is u can get it faster. lvl 1 spellshards is only 2,5~k, so u can dish out more damage at a earlier stage of the game.

THe Advantage of Mock is, that u have +60 Attack DMG, his 40DMG Mock Radius is bigger than the area of damage of his third skill AND he doesnt hurt himself with Mock. (His skills cost life u know!)

One further note: If hes reborn on lvl 3 ultimate his spells do additional +30% dmg, so spellshards even more shine on him then.

I played many games with him and the combo posthaste (if u farm well early + spellshards AND mock) makes you the sickest magic damage dealer in the game, (100+ passive area dmg per second with ashestoashes + mock) but u are not very tanky then, so its not really that great to go for both items "early" i guess.

Which item would u prefer first for him, spellshards or mock?

My suggestion is: if u have to gank very much and be extremly active in the early stage of the game (because the opponents got hard carry potential) then u go for spellshards.
if u have the time to farm, the opponents do have any manadrain ability or item (and your ultimate is useless anyway in this case) then mock is a better item.

Btw: If a hero is in your team where mock is shining, like on zephyr or sandwraith u of course shouldnt build a mock on Ra... then spellshards are more appealing.

I Think the OP got it about right - spellshards for more active ganging game, mock for farming and more lategame oriented build

I don't like Spellshards, the int and mana is useless

This is what I'm thinking too. It is like the people who get Geo's or even worse, Nullfire on a hero like . Sure he can use some of the things the items give, but you truly want a hero to take advantage of every offering of an item.

imo with the way this guy scales with HP (his nuke is % max hp in part, right?) then you might as well just get more tanky. If you get hotbl/shamans then go for a heart/daemonic later. Short cd spells and your passive is nasty.

Thing about a mock on heres like zephyr is that they can get it early without sacrificing much. Hotbl-> mock is standard for zephyr. Doing that on someone who has great ganking potential seems sort of a waste but mock will be less effective later in the game.

even if u go mock and heart etc. s pellshards is a sick superlategame item for him then, because it boosts EVERYTHING he does, it even boosts mock damage. So my usual build is now: Post Haste (if farm is good when not then ghost marchers) HotBL SHamans, Mock, Heart/Breastplate(depends on opponents) and then (if the game is still running, and thats rare) ==> spellshards

all physical damage improvement items doesnt make any sense on him, his physical damage output is supersuperlow, and so is his statsgain. Thats why i think that spellshard is a incredible item on him even in the later stages in the game, but going more tanky is always a good option on him, especially if u dont have other tankinitiatiors in the team, it just depends if u wanna dish out damage or being tanky.

    somewhat agree with this.

Steamboots hotbl is core, headress is meh and as usual is situational. I find that often you can bypass it completely though and just go heart.

SS is a significant investment on heroes that don't carry through brute magic damage. It's like going SS on Dampeer, sure you could but items like null or shrunken would arguably be just as good.

The additional farming potential of mock is irrelevent since heart allows you to abuse your nukes more anyway (both of which are excellent farming tools). His spells have short cooldowns and can be abused, which makes me further believe heart is superior over mock.

Following this, mock and ss would both be irrelevent so the next logical item is clearly daemonic breastplate.

    Basically: Steamboots, hotbl, heart, breastplate

Spellshards are a good pick. Cooldowns and the bit of mana always counts as you can be countered, blinking, TPing etc.

After Helm and Headress, I like to build Whispering Helm (after Spellshards into Symbol). Works nice. And Heart, of course.

From the moeny you get from ganking, build a daemonic and a savage mace and scale into lategame by being a carry that catches people with your first skill and keeps them permaslowed with your second scale.

why is no one saying frostwolf?

  13. #13
because its crap on him? he doesnt hit very much and dont need mana..

my favorite build is loggers/shield/healpot to lifetube to posthaste to Hotbl and shamans and then.

    a) opponents got hard push team and u need to defend towers early => get the +10 armor piece, ra really lacks armor

    b) u have a little time to farm and stack the woods => mock

after mock heart and breastplate. Most games are over by now, if game is going on riftshards lvl 4 (by now your basedmg is high enough for justifing riftshards over other dmg items) and as attack modifier symbol rage.

and if the game IS STILL NOT OVER
    u doing it wrong.

btw: posthaste is such an excellent item on him, if u get it early enough u can farm like CRAZY. 400+ gpm is standard then and u are fast enough to chase any opponent down and can help your team immensly.

I don't really understand the tank build on him...he still dies super fast in battle no matter how tanky he is build. Pure damage output is the way to go:
    :FrostfieldPlate::ChargedHammer::Mock::Codex::Post Haste:: and spellshards ofc.

Since there is a bug that makes his passive deal true damage does that mean spellshards wont affect it?

    Yep.

But this will be fixed soon.

Is it just me or should HotBL + Shamans + Behems Heart all core on Ra? His best nuke does dmg based on max hp which behem greatly increases. His healing is 100% done by regen - behem greatly increases that. His ult starts him back at 50% health - the more health the longer he survives in his 2nd life. After that I'm sure there is somebody with the time and fervor to do the math with mock vs spellshards(gold cost vs dmg). I just hate having wasted stats i.e.mana/regen so I would go for mock if no one else has it.

  19. #19
Mock is defiintly better, especially because it gives +60 attackdmg too which really helps if it happens that u fight a carry who got a shrunken or u are at such low hp u cant use your abilities etc.

heart is awesome on him, but u also need armor REALLY really bad, so breastplate is important too.

Itembuild in this order. HOTBL (Helm) steamboots, headress, heart, pk, frostfield. Activate 2nd spell. PK in, use frostfield. when they try to run (if they survive) use 1st spell. Run up on them, hit hit. use 2nd spell again. + You normally have 4 teammates to kill when you tanked them.
