Haven't played sinced 1.41 and there are some changes i see...
Obviously, Soul reaper has come - meaning the pool of toppicks has changed a bit.
But you're not just gonna pick for what is good "for your team" - but "what's bad for your opponents"
- If you're thinking of pubgames, scout has become more common with the remade version.
If you're thinking real games with -CM modes, you usually still pick after what your opponents picks, such as: They pick tempest, you pick pharaoh /behemoth. - or similar, you often see soul reaper as a 1stpick, as he just works.

this is a thread based on the top teir picks, i don't really agree with all of them but i see where he is coming from
Since this game isn't yet as diverse as DotA there really are one of 3 basic strategies you can do.
1. Team AoE, including Plague Rider, Tempest, Kraken, and the likes
2. Team Burst Damage, with TB, Soulstealer, Pyro and that kind of gameplan
3. Team Stuntrain and push, which aims to gank a lot and push to end the game quickly
In most of these probably the best carry you can have is Soulstealer, best tank probably Kraken, and best disabler being Tempest.
Kraken is the most useful tank as he can forceably separate half of the enemy team for team fights so it is easier for your team. This is a unique ability the none of the other tanks have access to. Accursed obviously can absorb damage better and Jereziah can obviously heal everyone better, but that unique ability makes him the best in my book, plus Krakens farming ability early game makes it easier for him to get things like Sac Stone, Helm, and Heart.
there's no such things as tanks in dota. Heroes who can engage fights are very welcome though. And I'm sure that kraken guy is pretty good at it
New Kraken is king. After that, Soul Reaper (ulti is pure currently), TB (as always), Tempest (Lack of counters), Demented Shaman and then your regular int funbags.
You can rate kraken as tank/fatlatecarry/engager/virgin, what ever you want.
Point is his 3sec cd aoe dmg spell is just utterly imbalanced, not to mention his ultimate can be as devastating as a good behemoth dagger+ultimate.
As euphoria says, there arent enough good counterpicks to make tempest have a hard time. Etc spectre, furion, silencer, morphling and centaur.
Soulreaper (necrolyte) arent really that strong. Besides farming and pushing good, hes used to kill a carryhero (mostly) and atm in hon its very rare a team, (highskilled) base their strategy on a single fat lategame carryhero. Hes usefull sure, but definently not a must-pick, neither 1st nor 5th.
It all comes down to how your team wanna play your strategy, good "standard reminder fp's" are, kraken, tempest, jereziah, succubus, thunderbringer, demented shaman(varies a lot), hellbringer and defiler (varies aswell).
If you need tips feel free to pm, but i dont bother writing a guide for a betagame since it updates frequently ^^
hope that helpt a bit.
Soul reaper ulti works on kongor, and deals pure damage, can't say no to that![]()
In Pubs, many people pick Scout because they think the almost permanent invisibility will prevent them from dying a lot. In reality, they tend to feed in most games I've been in. I'd say 9 of 10 times someone picks Scout in a game I've been in (either on my team or the other), that team loses big.
I don't really see tempest as godly seeing as all the counters for him, even in shrunken head you can stop him easily with tablet of command/hellbringer ultimate/various other skills
Grubby pick scout he like BM, pick the wolf guy he got FS wolves mayne.
Wtf breaky necro'ing? o.O
Wtf with all those ppl necro'ing all the time lol.
Anyway, it's kinda funny to see all this.![]()
