I saw that in HoN very few people utilise Hero Tagging strategy so i figured i spread the word a bit.
Personally i first implemented Hero Tagging strategy during the good old days of DotA, at a time when Warcraft 3 was history and only reason for having it was because of DotA.
What is Hero Tagging?
This relatively small trick involves taking small "bites" out of your enemy's health by combining a ranged char with melee char, preferably a tank. It enables you to take your enemy's health down enough for a final push to wipe them out only to sustain minimal damage (most of time).
Why do it?
There is a few good reasons to do it. Once you implement it yourself you will probably work out more of them.
1. Enables you to lower the HP of enemy enough for you to run in with team mate and clean them up (i like this tactic because it gets me bloodlust)
2. Enables you to work out what sort of player you are facing (pro, good, bad, noob, ubern-noob)
3. Forces enemy to run away from xp and gold gain, you level faster with more gold than them (this together with purposely killing your creeps ensures they don't reach the enemy tower in full number)
4. Attain bloodlust and lane control
5. Force enemy to change lanes (further xp and gold loss)
5. Add to your kill list
How to do it?
It is a relatively simple procedure, quick and painless, well not to enemy.
I personally like teaming up with a ranged AGI with melee STR tank. You can also use the ranged AGI, melee AGI (less hp be carefull), or other good combo is INT with STR tank (Glacius is nice because of his freeze ability, enables you to ground and pound the enemy).
For this example we will use Slither and Devourer.
1. Devourer goes in close to the enemy creeps and takes them out all while watching out for enemy heroes, same applies to slither, devourer is bait here
2. Once enemy hero is close both Devourer and Slither attack him once or twice. Hit enemy once and it averages around 100hp gone, twice 200hp etc.
Note
Don't use abilities that are costly. By that i mean either mana costly or cooldown costly. You want to save the desert for after the main meal.
3. Run back behind your mobs and focus on creeps
4. Rinse and repeat
5a - This step is if you want hero kills and can achieve it (works well against INT and AGI because of low hp). If enemy has 50% or less HP, its time to go for the kill. Get Slither close and once almost melee range both heroes should attack (enables Slither plenty of shots before he has to chase). Chase until enemy dead then go for friend, both of you should have at least 75% HP left, most of time the other hero will run being afraid to die. At this stage there is a good chance both of you will be at 50% health or less
5b - Lane control, involves more micro as your goal is to chase away both heroes, keeps your HP up and whole lane to yourself. Apply same tactic as 5A but get Devourer to attack 2nd hero while you pump into original target hero, forcing him to run at 30% HP upon which you instantly change to 2nd hero and drop them to 30% as well, both of you should back off to preserve HP and focus on creep kills. Most time they will run to fountain to heal up losing a good minuter or two in xp and gold gathering.
6. Rinse and Repeat until mid game (strategy not as affective then because the focus is on the push).
I assumed that there are 2 heroes in your lane, therefore making your life harder. If there is only one, well than lucky you....bloodlust time.
I am aware that there are gaps in strategy, and i leave them open, because at the end of the day for every strategy there is a effective counter. Its up to you to know the general idea, and to bend it to your liking and effect. Personally I use this strategy with advanced character moves (depending on char), like blind shooting with Slithers poison spray from hiding spots.
If you do post, post constructively for the benefit of the beginners, don't flame, no matter what its not welcome as it just shows ignorance and lack of will to help those who just started playing.
I hope this little guide helps you get the jump on others.
Note: Ill try and get either some screens or video up for this to better demonstrate this strategy. Other day it got me 10 Kills, 0 Deaths and 2 Assists before i even hit level 8, for a beginner in HoN its good stuff i say.
The term for this "strategy" is harassing, not hero tagging or whatever, rofl. You attack the enemy to lower his health. Gee, thats a new concept.
Uhh... who came up with Hero 'tagging'. And harassing is normal, nothing new.
I saw that in HoN very few people utilise the Synchronized Hits In Tempo strategy so i figured i spread the word a bit.
Personally i first implemented Synchronized Hits in Tempo strategy during the good old days of DotA, at a time when Warcraft 3 was history and only reason for having it was because of DotA.
What is Synchronized Hits in Tempo (S H I T)?
This relatively small trick involves attacking enemy heroes by right clicking on them. Because the game has a certain amount of time between each attack, your attacks end up becoming synchronized in a certain tempo, the base attack time.
Why do it?
There is a few good reasons to do it. Once you implement it yourself you will probably work out more of them.
1. Enables you to lower the HP of enemy
2. Enables you to find out whether your SHITs is stronger than their SHITs
3. Forces enemy to run away you
4. Attain bloodlust and win the fight
5. Force enemy to change lanes (further xp and gold loss)
5. Add to your kill list
How to do it?
It is a relatively simple procedure, quick and painless, well not to enemy.
I personally like using good agility heroes like Scout, Chronos, and Night Hound, they do a lot of damage and are the best for this task.. generally you should get items like dagon so you can synchronize your spells too in tempo (also known as SSIT).. also always start with boots of speed because if you arent in melee range u cant do SHITs
For this example we will use Scout and Chronos.
1. Scout goes in close to the enemy hero and right clicks, he's bait lolol
2. Once enemy hero is hit once, Scout waits a certain amount of time, the base attack time, and then attacks him again.. if he took 50 damage the first time, he'll take a total of 100 damage the second time
Note
Don't use abilities at all. You need to synchronize them. See my other guide SSIT.
3. Keep attacking him. Chronos should be SHITing on the enemies too.
4. Rinse and repeat
5a - This step is if you want hero kills and can achieve it (works well against low hp agi heroes that start with boots of speed because they are best). If enemy has 50% or less HP, in a certain amount of time your **** will kill them. Get Scout and Chronos close and both heroes should attack. Chase until enemy dead
5b - Lane control. This should be self explanatory, DUH!
6. Rinse and Repeat until mid game (strategy not as affective then because the focus is on the push).
I assumed that there are 2 heroes in your lane, therefore making your life harder. If there is only one, well than lucky you....SHITs time.
I am aware that there are gaps in strategy, and i leave them open, because at the end of the day for every strategy there is a effective counter. Its up to you to know the general idea, and to bend it to your liking and effect. Personally I use this strategy with advanced character moves (depending on char), like attack moving and using hold position sometimes.
Thanx iKeff. I thought it was important to share this as even tho its simple most people don't implement it.
As for Lukia and Crayze I specifically said post only constructive criticism. You obviously know how to play this game so why are you even posting on a GUIDE FOR NOOBS?
Also crayze harassing is different and can occur outside lanes and away from creeps. Scout is great at harassing (vanish, attack, vanish, attack etc.). This is specifically for early stages of game to get a head start on enemy.
Once again for all NON-BEGINNERS.
DON'T POST UNLESS ITS CONSTRUCTIVE. If its not then keep your opinions to yourself whoever you are, as no one cares and you are just promoting the want to flame for no reason even tho its a GUIDE for NOOBS.
Wow it seems that all the DoTA noobs are playing HoN now and they think they are good. When in fact ...Necrollus any average DoTA player knows what harassing is. If you would have played any competitional DoTA then this would be your second nature.
I don't know if people bother to read or think these days but let me say again something.
Valentin - This is NOT for people that have experience already, this is for people that DON'T have experience with such tactics.
Why would you guys waste time and make fun out of a tactic that to you and me is second nature but to a NOOB (keyword) is unheard off?
When i played DotA years back i didn't know how to do it, because i was a noob, its not until my friends who were tournament players showed me did i understand.
Once again for all the people that have nothing better to do but to flame and complain. GTFO THREAD AND KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF...YOU ARE NOT COOL.. This is for Noob players that want more information on gameplay.
I have another great gameplay tactic, it's called Frequently Useful Creep Killing, or F.U.C.K. for short. What you do is wait for the creep to get to low health where one of your attacks will kill it. This will give you gold and experience. Also you can do this to your own creeps, which will deny the enemy experience and gold.
I call it Frequently Useful because for the majority of the game it is very useful, but occasionally you don't want to get in the last hit because you want to push the lane faster. This method is called Autoattacking Somewhat Swiftly, or A.S.S.
Anyway what you can take away from this is at the start of the game, you want to F.U.C.K, and during the pushing stage, make sure you are an A.S.S.
But most of all, don't Deliberately-Intentionally-Casually Killsteal, in other words don't be a D.I.C.K!
This is a 100% constructive criticism thread!
You know nobody really flamed you. It was evident that the gigantic term you used ("tagging") to explain something is already a commonly known gameplay element. I myself opened this topic in hopes to see something new, maybe a new way to play around with HoN mechanics?
People have stated that what you call "tagging" is in actual fact harassing and with the exception of a few mock-posts, isn't it obvious they just do not want you to deceive new players? Especially since you have said "this is for Noob players" - It would really annoy me to find out some (I can only assume) averagely-skilled player is making up terms and convincing others who 'look up' to him to use these terms too.
"Make sure you disagree that tower when it's below 10% HP!"
"My CP5M is pretty high.. What's CP5M? Duh.. Clicks per 5 minutes.. Nub."
Now constructively, I can say your guide to harassing is pretty bad. It seems a tad bit limited to the scenarios you have given and I think a guide to timing your harasses/using creeps for harassing/luring would be way more useful.
Secondly, you throw words around like 'micro' but something tells me you aren't too sure what microing really is about.Lane control, involves more micro as your goal is to chase away both heroes, keeps your HP up and whole lane to yourself.
GLHF and thanks to the others for the ****ing and SHITing guides. Images and a replay would help though! :P
Edit:
Also, you mentioned 'few people utilise' this and that you are here to spread the word...

Fail.

Troof... this is harassing, and coining a new term for it in a "new player guide" is only going to confuse people, both new and old.
The basics of harassing could be found in any basic laning guide.
To harass:
If you have the opportunity to hit an enemy hero without risk of taking damage yourself, do it.
It might not do much damage, but it will add up. Another thing to note is that when you right-click or A-click on enemy, nearby creeps will attack you and follow you briefly. You can use this to pull the wave back towards your tower.
this is harassing and im pretty sure you werent the only one doing it. good try though
I'm pretty sure Roman gladiators already used this tactic thousands of years ago so I'd guess you're probably not the inventor of it.
I like that you all **** on him and one guy says it's a "commonly known gameplay element", but hell, how many times have you watched teammates sit in their lane for the first 20 minutes of a game without even thinking of ganking? The guy wrote a quick guide to something that most people don't get. Watch many noobs harass. They go way overboard and put themselves in a position where you can **** all over them.
At least some of the posters in this thread should consider that not everything that's common knowledge to them is for everyone else.
