Silly Question here about countering devourer

I'm not particularly bad nor am I great, I'm in the 1600-1650 range but I had an odd question to ask.

How effective is mystic vestments versus devourer's cloud? Would you be better off just getting fortified bracers until some tanky item?

and yes I am a bit of a baddie when it comes to playing against devourer....he's one of the few heroes that annoys me to no end =[

i am not particularily good either, but devo is one of the heroes i enjoy playing against, "dodge the hook" works fine but if you cannot do that every time mystic vestments are effective.
What i would recomend tho is to buy wards instead, if you are mid, place it on the enemy ramp, if you are on the side lane, place it so you can see devo if he is coming to your lane, and when he does, back and hugg tower.
devo is a hero that needs to score kills to be effective, and if you buy wards and just back away, he will waste his precious time of effectiveness

in general: when in a pub alone always have 1 ward up, even if you are a carry, the support should ward, but in pubs it will not always be so.

sry for spelling errors, there sure are a lot i did not see, need to get a spellchecker

Don't think that you need to justify yourself when you ask questions here. The a$$holes are mainly in the General Discussion forums, not here and the Training Grounds

You won't get flamed here, whatever how skilled you are

Thanks for the help, I'm not having an issue with wards as much as rune competitiveness, to counter a mid devo half the time I have to be there much earlier to avoid getting hooked right at the rune. I've been able to dodge the hook when I expect it, your warding the enemy ramp is a great suggestion it sounds rather easy and makes me feel like an idiot

Thus wards win Thanks a bunch!

I'd say it's pretty dependent on which hero your playing. Some mid heroes build for survivability, in which case I'd sure go for it. but some heroes like flint I wouldn't recommend it. At that point you just need to know how to dodge him when he get antsy.

Unless you're angrytrooper, screw that guy

    On topic:
It's a tough call, but if you get hooked + ulted you're practically dead anyway. Combined with the fact that the rot damage isn't really that big I think the fortified bracelets are better against teams which don't have a bunch of other magic damage dealers.

I heard you need at least 1k hp to make mystic vest worth buying at all. You wont have that until mid game unless your a strength hero or you buy fortified bracelets or steam boots and keep on strength. Its really good on strength heros that get helm of the black legion as a first item and have a lot of hp early. Getting a vest after helm is good vs most teams.

Also, specifically on devo he does a lot of his damage with physical cause of the crazy 400 damage on his hook. You just spent 400 which is a lot early game just to help vs half of his damage. Just get bracelet or dont get hooked.

To clarify, you need to take 1k+ magic damage for Shaman's Headdress (not Vestments) to start showing higher returns than a Helm.

Devourer will rarely do more than 1k magic damage to you on a combo (hook+autoattacks will happen), so occasionally just straight HP is worth it to a point.
Let me spell it out plain for you
Angry people complain about the things I do
I'm not changing direction, I'm stepping my game up
Maintaining my name, the same way I came up.

Truth is, I thought it mattered
    I thought that music mattered.
    But does it? Bollocks!
Not compared to how people matter.

Not necessarily against just Devourer. But I usually pick up a mystics most games. For 400G its probably one of the most efficient items in the game. It increases magic resist like 15% or something. Adds up quite a bit considering everytime, if not every hero deals magic damage in every form.

I know a devourer sometimes builds it to defend against his own rot, so I guess if it works for him why not?
Shaman's headress is far less value and takes too much farm if it isn't a necessity. 400G for vestaments is good.

EDIT: I just rethought your post, didn't realize you were talking specifically at mid. I'd go bracers for the HP gain, his hook does phys up to level 6 (then he devours and you're screwed either way) and the fortified HP helps with creep attacking you if you manage to sneak a kill in. I usually play support / gank so I can throw the 400G around for vests, but if you're a carry it may be better to grab an item that helps you on your build.

Speaking from experience, I can say that getting a items that serve "dual purposes" is the best.

    In example:
Barrier Idol - Can be both used to tank most of devos dmg, also usefull against pesky heroes like behemoth.

But, if all else fails or if you simply can't get these types of items just remember the golden rule: fighting devo is every man for himself. So, if you see a farmed, lvl 25 devo coming at you with a mean look on his face, it is best to split up and hope that you can live to gangrape him another day.

Hope this helped, happy devo hunting

    BEST counter to devo
    1 ward on his hill
    see hook coming? gg?

    also, doctor repulsor

I would agree with most people saying: Ward the ramp
I tend to play quite bit of Soulstealer, which is quite squishy..
Ward up ramp helps to hug creeps on the right side, which you really want to do as SS specially, Ward gives you vision uphill, which means you can Range 3 DH his ass all the time, and the creep hugging provides 2 things = Prevent hook, DH rape the devo if he comes in for last hits ^^

What about tablet of command yourself? or doesnt that put enough distance between u and dev?

tablet of command. if you are laning mid against him, place a ward on his high ground to avoid hooks. bracers and vestments are inefficient (they just make him chase you a little longer).

Legionaire counters him well. If he gets close, Just right click him and rape him with whirl winds.

  19. #19
    ...

Is tablet the new core on all mid heroes that you'd have it while still laning?

Pretty much just dodge hooks. You may need boots to do this more effectively, and it's easier because no need to worry about catching on return hook anymore. Without his hook Devo is a pretty sucky melee mid, so just pick any ranged and wail on him. If you don't trust your hook-dodging skills then play Hag or something and blink out of hook-rot.

To dodge hooks, stay behind creeps works most of the time.

To clarify, Devourer's Decay isn't his strongest skill, his Hook is by far a better skill than Decay. You won't really need to buy magic res to counter it unless their whole team has a lots of magic dps.

If you're looking for an easy counter to him solo mid, pred works pretty well because your carnivorous buffs your autoattack a lot. This is most effective when you get stats as your starting build, something like Claw-Claw-Totem-Totem-Runes-HP Potion.

Keeper of the Forest is also pretty good, you just bash him on his face with above stats build and he dies. Your starting stats are way better than his. Remember to ult after he uses Devour, because if you ult before he does he channels on you during the ult and he gets the full effectiveness of his ult while wasting yours.

If you're confident in your hook dodging skills, Slither can be a true counter and you can watch him die. Corrupted also fits into this category.
