i am an nm player but i played cm once with my friend, its actually really entertaining! you only have to farm for the first few levels, then just go around nonstop killing stuff (i played hag solo mid against bads so that might be why it was fun). its a lot more fast-paced and fun, but I do agree with the bad habits thing. learn nm first if you want to play srs mode, but casual mode DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT TRIES TO DO, it makes the game more fun for CASUAL players
You gain a lot more gold in casual mode from kills. The difference in ganking the enemies in casual mode isn't so much that you cripple their farm, but rather that you boost your own farm by a lot.
Personally i mostly play casual mode these days, simply because it's not as serious and i feel it's easier to have a fun game there than in normal mode when playing with pugs. There are a few things that i don't like about it, mainly denies not being important, but other than that it's a pretty nice mode.
My first cm game went like this:
Random Hammerstorm!
Oh fk net dc, tries to reconnect for the next 4 1/2 minutes
gets back in, everybody is level 5-6
Farms for 5 minutes, then proceeds to help the team with killing...
Realises you get 450 gold a kill
Has Elder, Steamboots and Bottle at 25 mins with having died 4 times
in NM this would not be possible D:
Assists are imbalanced in Casual Mode. Sandwraith and Thunderbringer are king.
I think CM could be fun for someone who is new and tends to die a lot. I personally hate it because I rely more on the enemy losing money when I kill them more than I rely on myself gaining money from kills. Someone mentioned earlier that carries don't matter and it's all about gankers. I could see how that would make sense but I don't totally agree. From my experience, since the carry doesn't lose money from dieing they can rack up all the gold they want and ultimately dominate everyone in the late game.
That's again why I said I rely on the enemy's carry not getting gold, more than my own gold income. Unless of course I'm the carry. ^^
My real-life friends REFUSE to play Normal Mode because they think the games take too long. I, on the other hand, would much rather play Normal Mode. I think they are quite different in several aspects, the most important one being GPM. Whenever I play Normal Mode, it feels like it is at a slug's pace because you don't make as much gold across the board (whether it is from hero kills, creep kills, passive gold, etc) and you lose gold when you die, which I like because it is much harder in a Normal game for someone to get fed enough to completely ruin the game, which can happen in Casual Mode by the 10 minute mark if your mid isn't any good or your side lanes are being ganked successfully.
Perfect example, playing a CM game as Hellbourne last night, my team had a Guantlet solo top (Wildsoul was in the jungle) go 0-4 by the 7 minute mark; the other team's Aluna was credited with 3/4 kills (and an assist on the fourth), and even though she was killed twice after that, she was still stomping us by the 15 minute mark because she was 3-4 levels higher than our team's average level, not to mention she outgeared 3 of us combined because she was never penalized for those two deaths. I understand that Casual Mode is there for noobies or those who want a quick game, but there's got to be a happier medium than its current state.

casual mode is much more fun from time to time for my opinion, though the fact that they removed denying is a bit stupid,
I think he's pointing out the fact that, because of his ult,can get an assist on essentially every kill that happens in a match, even if he's not there personally. Since this is the case, and assists reward so much gold in CM games, he's super easy to gear up, regardless of whether or not he's a "trash" hero.
That got changed a few patches ago. Sand Wraith no longer gains assists when he ults.
OT: I think some people are forgetting that Casual Mode is there to teach new players. You can't say it's a bad mode when you have a grasp of how the game works. Ask a new player instead.
Yea i agree that it is for sure a NEWB mode. and it is true, noobs wont buy a chicken in CM and that's why the start with it. A noob can win against a pro player in a CM game just depending on the hero. but that doesnt mean that CM mode cant be fun at all. i still enjoy playing CM games for fun
cm is not a serious mode. nobody takes it seriously. but like any game, you still need to be more skilled than your opponents to win...
in cm you are like 10000% more likely to see troll builds, people going rambo, lack of wards, etc etc. that being said, based on experience your average CM player will be better at early level killing than your average normal mode player, since CM puts a HUGE EMPHASIS on getting kills.
people in cm are very aggressive. but ya, its not serious business like normal mode.
bump for amusement

CM is much more forgiving. It's fun, and it's not like the skills won't translate, but it's definitely an adjustment to NM. No reason a good CM player can't make the adjustment and won't be better for his time spent playing CM.
