    The russian use of parenthesis?

I've wondered about this for quite some time now.. Why do the russians use "))" etc totally random at times? Is it something that happens when they write in the Cyrillic alphabet and we see it wrong in the latin alphabet?

Any russian or somebody else care to enlighten me on this small matter?

(I did search the forum but could not find a thread about it..)

PS. Im not russian even though I have a russian flag, which you probably figured out yourselves though

As I've heard it, it's a smiley face. They don't use colons in their smiley faces for some reason.

This is something I was guessing actually.. It would be rather logical. But I still want someone with more insight on the question to confirm if it's true,

    It works like this IIRC:
You already have the colons i the chat text so no need to add more of them!
    I.E
    Code:
    <nick>:) VS <nick>::)

Nah, that is not right. I just saw the thing in a russian Youtube video too, no colons there.

Found an old thread now, but did not get much wiser. Maybe it's just a cultural thing. Like spanish people writing "JEJEJEJE XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD"

A russian friend in another game i played told me it's supposed to mean a smiley. He didn't tell me the logic behind it

I'm actually starting to think that there is no logic to it at all.

An elaborate conspired nation-wide metatroll? It's more likely than you think.

    not true

    above the 6 key.
Since pics are disabled, the following in an explanation on how to count better.
Ever tired of counting on your fingers and being stuck at 10? Here's the solution: Binary finger counting. Instead of counting how many fingers are up, you count which fingers are up. With only 8 fingers, you can count up to 255.
    1. Ignore thumbs, they make this process harder.
    2. Start with your rightmost finger. This finger represents 2^0, or 1. Your next finger represents 2^1, or 2. Try all the different combinations with these two fingers, you have a range from 0-3. Your next finger, 2^2 = 4, followed by 2^3 = 8 and so on.
    3. Now you can count high! the finger combination 00110101 = 1+4+16+32 = 53.

But truth be told. My russian friend just told me that it's something they do. They just do their smilies like that.
