can empath use items while her host is disabled?

Someone said this on another thread. If so, wouldn't you be able to just hop on someone's back, and then when tempest comes in to ult, tablet him out of it?

Yes. No, does not take any part of the host's damage.

Host stunned, empath can still do skills.
When you do you first skill, the host gets healed, and not yourself.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read good, i don't know about tempest and other skills that go through magic immunity.
