from what i look, the dedicated.bat file is use for create a dedicate server for a private game( unnamed server )
what if we could mod this file to make customable server name, plus add a way to connect multiple person.
this would create a oppoutunity to map creator to test there map with the public in no stats game.
We would need lan support for that.
But S2 doesn't seem to want us to play on lan / test custom maps in multiplayer because this feature could be used to play hon over the internet without paying.
Thats is the main reason why i woun't even consider making a map with the mapeditor (though i love mapping). The dream solution is a ****ing joke!
How to test if a map is balanced? How to test if the maps has bugs with more then one player? How to test if the map makes fun?
Imo they should allow playing on lan after authenticating but restrict the ip ranges
to private ip adresses so that the user can't connect to a server over garena/hamachi. They could even check the windows host file for illegal entrys.
Look at games like "sins of a solar empire" that was a hudge success without ANY copy protection(not even a simple cd check) and with lan mode. Why is S2 so scared of piracy? Pirates wouldn't get the leaver protection system,matchmaking, the ingame shop with all the content, stats,... over lan!
