This guide is intended for use in 5v5 Non-em Forest of Caldavar
Pestilence
Once a councilor to the Moon Queen, Pestilence betrayed his people — for as a male, he could never have come to rule them himself. With his own powers augmented by the Hellbourne, he is as strong as the queen he served in the past. But his arts are unholy: mindless, ravenous insects he calls forth, cruel and violent skills he deploys.
As this is my first guide feel free to leave (constructive!) comments. Pestilence is my favorite melee/strength to play; he can be a good ganker and tank. He is a great counter to enemy heroes with invisibility (Scout, Madman, Keeper of the Forest and Night Hound). His contribution to the team is the ability to chase down heroes with his high speed and kill them with his AOE stun.
Flight Effects
10% Damage taken
10 / 20 / 30 / 40% Movement Speed
Synopsis
Pestilence takes limited flight, increasing his Movement Speed at the cost of taking increased damage. This helps you when you have blinked in and stunned, to move closer to you're foe's at a hight speed. The down fall is that you take 10% more damage, so be care using it. It may also be used to get away or to get to places because it lasted up to 25 seconds.
Activation
Stuns targets in radius for 1 / 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 second(s), damages them for 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 Physical damage, and slows their Movement Speed by 20% for an additional two seconds after the stun.
Synopsis
Pestilence calls on the aid of his underground insect brethren to strike nearby enemies from underground. Enemies are impaled, causing them to be stunned and take damage, followed by reduced Movement Speed. This is one of the longer stuns in the game (2.5sec) so put it to use. A good way to do so would be fly in and stun. Another is when you have a Port key you can blink in and stun multiple foe's, and your team should follow up after you have made the stun.
Pestilence's stun area of effect (AOE) is actually very large and people don't know the heroes are slowed by 20% 2 seconds after the stun, that is 1/4 of your cool down so you can get ready for the next stun. Pestilence's stun is physical damage. Also note that it is Magic so is will not effect magic immune heroes, but they will take the damage. You can lead your enemies and use your stun defensively to get away if needed by using Flight.
Gore
Action: Passive
Cooldown: 2.0 Seconds
On Attack
10 / 15 / 20 / 25% chance to deal 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 bonus Magic damage to target and stun for 1 second on heroes, 2 seconds on non-hero units.
This ability contains Bashing properties. Items and abilities with Bashing properties contain a shared cooldown time.
Synopsis
Pestilence gains a chance to stab an enemy unit with his frontal horn when attacking, causing them to take some additional damage and be stunned briefly. Gore is very useful for Pestilence because it help his cause as chaser. He can fly faster and has a good chase of doing the 1 second to spot the foe's in there tracks, and that will allow you to get 2 or 3 hit in, as well give you that extra second for your Cooldown on Impale.
Swarm
Action: Target Entity Type = Enemy Units
Type: Superior Magic Range: 700 Cast Time: 1.0 Second Mana Cost: 25 Cooldown: 10.0 Seconds
Activation
Applies Swarm to target for 30 seconds.
Swarm Effects
-5 / -10 / -15 Armor
Revealed
Synopsis
Pestilence releases a swarm of locusts at a target, lowering their armor and revealing them temporarily. If you're laning against a Scout or Night Hound, all ways use your swarm on them before you plan to chase.
Why? - Because Impale is what mainly makes Pestilence who he is, it’s a 2.5sec stun (at level 4) and Flight to chase and get away. Swarm will be next so you can minus the armor and get the kill easier. Save Gore to be used as a late game. Going stun over Flight or Flight over stun is situational, so see you are playing against. Sometimes you don't need to get Swarm at level 6 because you may want to stay in your lane until level 7. But after you get Swarm you need to go start ganking/farming.

Summary
It mostly depends on what you are play as, either item build is good for him. I have heard of people getting there Boots and then Port Key followed by Behemoths Heart to be a bigger tank in fights and then a Abyssal Skull to allow for smoother farming as well will help with the life steal for your team, if the game goes on longer, get Rift Shards and max them to level 4.
You are the main initiator, port in and stun as many heroes as you can. After you should put Swarm on their most threatening hero to your team. At this point in the team fight you need to keep spamming you stun as much as you can in the team fight, make sure not to use your flight until you have to. You are going to need it to either chase or run back to your base.
Match Details for ID 14947637.
Match ID: 1960746519607465 (here he is doing very well, almost completing the Daemonic Breastplate, and puting that Port Key to good use).
(Looking for others)
You don’t want anyone to slow or disable you, like Polly Priest, and so on. Heavy nukes from Thunderbringer and Pyromancer are also a bad thing because you will get nuked down fast. They will be gunning for you when your Flight is on, so get your tank items fast and be careful not to use Flight in the middle of team fights. Arachna will slow you and put the spider ult that you can’t run away from. Also watch for the magic immune heroes.
People to lane with would be Demented Shaman because he slow and minuses armor as well, makes it -46. Nymphora is good for the Healths and Stun plus Mana. Glacius has a good stun/slow and ult. Vodo Jester is good for healing and the tic's as well. So healing and slowing heroes. Empath is new and can be good on Pestilences back wail giving him +80 damage and Attack speed. If you are running a Tri-lane Pestilence can be the tank.
A big thanks to NomesWisdom for the format, and HoNWiki as well as the Main HON site. Hope you liked my guide to Pestilence, I hope it helps. As this is my first guide feel free to leave (constructive) comments.
