Let me spell it out plain for you
Angry people complain about the things I do
I'm not changing direction, I'm stepping my game up
Maintaining my name, the same way I came up.
Truth is, I thought it mattered
I thought that music mattered.
But does it? Bollocks!
Not compared to how people matter.

i see morphling being put into trilanes all the time. the point of a trilane is to give farm to your core carry, the negative effect on the other team's solo is secondary.
when you see melee heroes in trilanes, it's one of two situations:
1) the melee is a really hard carry like spectre
2) the melee is really good in a trilane/doesn't really need a lot of early attention to be effective. (es, sven)
stacking up on laning dominance at the expense of farm for your own carry/carrying capacity is rarely if ever worth it, because the other team usually matches your trilane with a solo who plays extremely defensively, with the consequence that your trilane doesn't accomplish anything and your team probably get outcarried later on. in the off chance that you have a tri vs tri situation, it's usually because one of the teams have a melee hard carry in there. but at that point, that lane will require roaming help anyway. there is a balance between getting late game potential on your team and suppressing the other team's carry, and often times the more reliable and smart strategy is to simply get more lategame of your own.

the reason you don't really see tripple range trilanes is because the melee heroes are generally stronger carries provided they get the same amount of farm.
if one of the support in a trilane is melee, then you have to build your trilane around that and get a ranged carry. say behemoth remains on the board and you really want the utility and initiation he provides, so you pick him to go as one of the support in the trilane. now the tradeoff is you'll have to get a ranged carry for the trilane to work.
a free shield breaker is pretty good for carrying. id qualify that as a steroid.
A free shieldbreaker pales in comparison to passives like critical strike in terms of damage, and spells that enhance your mobility are the best-scaling late-game abilities. There's a reason people go for whispering helm over shieldbreaker, and it's because the shieldbreaker orb effect isn't THAT good.
