    Spellshards: FAQ and its Mechanics

    Spellshards: FAQ

Will spellshards make the enemies magic armor go below zero?

No, spellshards will not make magic armor go below zero.

If they have 5.5 Magic Armor and you have level 3 Spellshards (ignores 6 Magic Armor). It will act as if the enemy has 0 Magic Armor.

But what if I have Harkon's blade?
It's the same here, won't make Magic Armor go below 0. Keyword: Ignores Magic Armor. Harkon's Blade will first apply the -5 Magic Armor debuff and Spellshards will ignore 2/4/6 M.armor after that.

    There's a difference between ignoring M.armor and applying a -M.armor debuff.

Will Spellshards damage Devourer/Accursed more if they use Decay/Cauterize?
Yes, Spellshards work for ALL magic damage.

Does it work for Mock of Brilliance?
Yes, all magic damage is amplified.

    Sandwraith's Dissipate?
    All, magic, damage.

Note: Spellshards only increase your Magic Damage.

    Do Spellshards stack?
The armor reduction stacks, but remember that it will not work beyond 0 magic armor. The cooldown reduction from Spellshards does not stack. Spellshards will also stack with Rhapsody aura.

Spellshards: Mechanics and In-Depth Damage Calculations

    - After all other Magic Armor reductions are factored into play, it checks if Adjusted Magic Armor > 0.
[If it is, then it does Adjusted Magic Armor - <Spellshards Magic Armor Removal Amount>. If that number is less than 0, then it "treats" your attack as though it's hitting a unit with 0 Magic Armor.

Else, it just "treats" your attack as though it's hitting a unit with Magic Armor - <Spellshards Magic Armor Removal Amount>]
If Adjusted Magic Armor < 0 , then Spellshards won't factor in its Magic Armor removal.

*Note: This mechanic only works for the wielder of Spellshards.

**Note that this mechanic works on all damage that is Magic or a subtype of Magic (ie, SuperiorMagic), independent of the target that is incurring the damage.

Example scenario #1: Positive -> Positive -> Negative

Enemy hero with base Magic Armor 5.5 and he already has Harkon's Blade debuff (-5 Magic Armor). Therefore, his Magic Armor is 0.5 after all Magic Armor reductions (other than Spellshards).

    Spellshards level 1 ignores 2 of that Adjusted Magic Armor (0.5). 0.5 - 2 = -1.5 and -1.5 < 0.

Therefore, the magic damage you deal to that target at that time would treat the target as though he had 0 magic armor.

Example scenario #2: Positive -> Positive -> Positive

Kongor has base 50 Magic Armor and has Harkon's Blade debuff on him. Therefore, Adjusted Magic Armor is 50 - 5 = 45.

    Let's say we have Spellshards level 3 on our hero now. Then 45 - 6 = 39 and 39 > 0.

Therefore, the magic damage you deal to that target at that time would treat the target as though he had 39 magic armor.

Example scenario #3: Positive -> Negative -> Negative

Assume we have Hero A with base 3 Magic Armor. Harkon's Blade debuff makes his Adjusted Magic Armor 3 -5 = -2.

Since -2 < 0, Spellshards does nothing to amplify your damage further.

Therefore, the magic damage you deal to that target at that time would treat the target as though he had -2 magic armor.

Example scenario #4: Negative -> Negative -> Negative

Assume we have Hero B with base -2 Magic Armor. Harkon's Blade debuff makes his Adjusted Magic Armor -2 -5 = -7.

Since -2 < 0, Spellshards does nothing to amplify your damage further.

Therefore, the magic damage you deal to that target at that time would treat the target as though he had -7 magic armor.
