    Is HoN Still limited to just a HP bar and MP bar?

    Or could you perhaps for some heroes replace the MP bar with something else? Charges, runes, stamina etcetc.

    Something along those lines. I'm just curious. You could not in dota because you were limited to WC3 Mechanics but.. In Heroes of Newerth is it the same case?

    I imagine you could considering HoN has the freedom of the developers at hand. However, the problem with replacing one of those bars is that you then invalidate any items, skills or auras that would use them. So if you had a rune bar instead of a mana bar, how would you factor in mana regeneration and item usage?

    What do you mean exactly? You mean something different graphically? Or a bar which has an other function than Health / Mana?


    In WC3, you could mess up with the editor to change the properties of the bars: a stamina bar is largely possible with WC3.

    True enough I was just thinking outside the box but yeah I did figure how would they regen and it completely negates the stat of intelligence but still. A hero without a manabar would be fun as hell.

    It would work as long as the heroes abilities required health to cast. Not sure how easy it would be to balance.

    Can steal some WOW mechanics involving Energy costs / Rage imo

    Tides of Blood had a hero that used health alone to cast spells. Worked really well.

    Well, I don't think you would replace bars so much as add them.

    We could add a general "run" ability that drains stamina and probably use that for some other things as well. Moral is always a popular idea as well. In that if you get hit too hard by certain types of attacks our moral zeros out and that can mean your character just runs or suffers some debuffs. You could then add heros and items that worked principally by attacking people's moral or stamina. A hero with no stamina for example might have lowered speed... movement and attack until it regenerated a bit.

    The aim of the devs right now is to fix the main issues in DotA, like leaving, disconnects, stat tracking and so on. They do not intend to break the foundations of the game and make it drift away from DotA, at least not now. The main target audience are DotA players anyway, so doing so would probably not be a good bussiness plan in the first place.

    Besides, there are already skills in DotA that have aditional costs, like HP, self-snares and such, so I doubt it is necessary to create entirely new machanics that would probably make balancing a living Hell, especially with so much work still to be done.
