    Honcast should go day[9]

With breaky recently stating his intentions of doing daily honcasts from monday-thursday, I think it's time honcast took a serious look at the day[9] style of organisation.

For those of you who don't know, day[9] is a starcraft 2 commentator/pro that has a daily hour long show, with four segments monday-thursday.

Funday Monday: Player follow an arbitrary set of rules designed to test the limits of the players creativity and ability to adapt. (For example, players have to expand every 5 minutes, or go without using certain units)
Newbie Tuesday: Players submit videos of themselves either getting owned by, or dealing with, a particular strategy/tactic. Day[9] then explains whats needed to get a grasp and take hold of these situations.
Friendday Wednesday: Day[9] talks with a pro friend on some games, getting someone else's input on competitive games.
Thursday: It's thursday. Plain old competitive matches commentated.

Together, these days compose a show that's fun, informative and shows some good old fashioned competitive gaming. This is very good for players of all skill levels, and it (along with his 'unique' personality) is what makes his show so awesome, and worth watching a man talk to himself/pixels for an hour.

There's no reason why Honcast shouldn't pick up a similar formula that covers all those adjectives: Fun, informative and showcases professional hon. Heck, even those specific days could be covered.

Funday Monday: arbitrary restrictions (items with activated abilities only, carry buys the wards, no boots etc)
Newbie Tuesday: helpful advice for new people (Dealing with strong initiation, how to ward/counter-ward, how to use a jungling hero, how to manage multiple pets)
Friendday Wednesday: Random pros (papadrayich, freshpro etc) co-cast.
Thursday: inhouses, scrims, comp matches and so forth.

Even if you didn't want to rip off day[9], Honcast could really use some sort of organization. If doing a daily show, it's important to keep in mind that more content is not necessarily the key, rather new and interesting content. here are some more ideas for daily topics that could be covered on a weekly basis.

Hero spotlight: In depth study on the playstyle of a particular hero through a couple games (skipping over hero selection and fast forwarding through some parts, such as when the hero is dead could really save time here)
Up-and-coming: Examines teams that are on the rise through the ranks, and a couple of their scrims, bringing attention to non top-ten teams.
Something to help noobs: because the community needs it.

I dunno if these ideas are terrible, the point i'm trying to make is that some sort of similar organization that ensures healthy doses of fun, insight and professional hon are evenly distributed on honcast, rather than 30 games of EMPR.

Of course, these are just my opinions, please discuss.

TLR the new intended honcast daily mon-thurs should have some sort of structure that emphasizes fun, insight into the game and competitive gaming.
Since pics are disabled, the following in an explanation on how to count better.
Ever tired of counting on your fingers and being stuck at 10? Here's the solution: Binary finger counting. Instead of counting how many fingers are up, you count which fingers are up. With only 8 fingers, you can count up to 255.
    1. Ignore thumbs, they make this process harder.
    2. Start with your rightmost finger. This finger represents 2^0, or 1. Your next finger represents 2^1, or 2. Try all the different combinations with these two fingers, you have a range from 0-3. Your next finger, 2^2 = 4, followed by 2^3 = 8 and so on.
    3. Now you can count high! the finger combination 00110101 = 1+4+16+32 = 53.

We have actually thought about this and in fact XanderK wanted to do something very similar as well as his own project... but ultimately what it comes down to is that I am not going to sit here and act like I know HoN like Day9 knows StarCraft 2, because simply put I do not.

This doesn't mean however that this idea cannot happen as we could simply have competitive players come on as the insight instead to help the cast go along, so with that said this is a very plausible idea and perhaps something that we can implement for this feature.

With that said, the main reason I decided to get this routine going was for like I have stated several times consistency, especially withe the movement of honcast lately there has been a lot of confusion and what not with what is going on. I just happened to call it Honcast Daily because I watch Day9 Daily and it just fit.. I literally thought of the name during the cast which those who tuned in probably noticed.

You could definitely mix it up, bring on some pro's to help review some of there matches.

If anything you should make some sort of forced rule in Fun casts. For example you can only buy items with a 'B' in the name, something as simple as Agility only or you can only use the top 2 lanes for the entire game. This would make for some really funny situations.

Although I definitely agree with this, and love day[9] more then anything, watch it every day <3 mirror matches. I do think the wednesday friendsday and newbie tuesday should somehow be mixed. Because no offense to Breaky, because, I couldn't do the same thing, I think pros teaching noobs, rather then the average 1650 player, because those are the kinds of people who know this game inside out. But totally thumbs up for the funday monday

As Breaky said, no one in the HonCast team knows the game well enough to do it Day9 style. You'd need Fresh to do it

Wow, somehow I didn't even read that though I read the rest of his post. FML. SORRY BREAKY <3

    <3 Day9!!

On topic, hon daily is a good idea but honcast would have to come with theme adapted to HoN. Then again, day9's goal is to make you a better gamer but no one in honcast can really do that so..

    K. So play more. Read more. Become better. You say this all the time, yet never improve. Quality > quantity.

You're not longer carried by superior broadcasting technology. Adapt.

Day9 is an absolutely top-tier SC and SC2 player, it's hardly reasonable to expect someone to get that good AND cast.

Fair enough, breaky doesn't have the intense pro knowledge of our trumpet-hating day[9], but is it really needed for regular programing?

Once again, I'd like to state that the idea is to have Regular scheduled themed days,
not necessarily the same ones as day[9].

I don't expect breaky to be day[9], not in the slightest. This has nothing to due with comparing the casters but the casting schedule and how it's organized. Newbie Tuesday too difficult? Think of another feature for Tuesdays. This way the shows differ from day to day, but follow a weekly pattern.

Day[9]'s teaching/commentating is a whole different world from shoutcasting from breaky and co, you shouldn't expect them to be the same.

Really? Think about what you just said. Breakycpk is probably doing as much as he can right now as far as number of casts. I'm sure he plays when he gets the chance but to play on a competitive level AND maintain an appropriate amount of casts is somewhat ridiculous and leaves very little time for real life. Even Day9 notes the amount of stress that his daily adds on especially when he is traveling to other events to do casting. It's not realistic for breaky to "try harder" and become a competitive level player and it's not reasonable for us to expect him to.

    We actually had this conversation again earlier today on how Day9 is the best of the best of what he does when it comes to casting and has set the bar so high that honestly no one can really do what he does. There is more than just simply being great at the game, if that was the only case needed then there would be a lot more casters similar to him. But he has several attributes that truely make him unique and near impossible to replicate including;

    1. Personal experience of around 10 years of being a pro (and I mean a VERY good pro) in the game he casts for

    2. SC and SC2 are games that require a very good understanding of the game in the first place to truly be successful at it and you could easily argue more than most other games (including HoN)

    3. He invests his OWN TIME into doing what he does on his own dime, he doesn't have an organization or someone nudging him in the side to do what he does... he got into doing casts on his own accord and has his own drive behind doing what he does because he loves it, basically a passion

So this is where its unrealistic to expect other people/organizations/shows to do what he does because to have that exact fit is near impossible. I am not trying to make excuses as I said in my earlier post I would love to do a similar idea to what day9 does and have in fact talked to several people and been getting ideas, but there is also the fact that HoN in general is a different pace/style game than Starcraft and its not as easy to just jump in and watch what a certain player or hero is doing.

    K. So play more. Read more. Become better. You say this all the time, yet never improve. Quality > quantity.
No matter what I do this will always be a response, so I don't even bother trying to explain these type of remarks anymore. If you have watched my casts from the beginning which was nearly a year ago at this point, you cannot sit here and say "I have not learned anything and never improved." I still say some dumb things and make points that may not be the "best" but once again I do more casting on a public scene in front of 1500+ viewers live daily and many more through VODs than anyone else which makes me a very easy target for occasionally saying something that you may not agree with or doesn't make sense.

Basically, no matter what I do or how much I improve there will ALWAYS be haters and that is just the realistic part of life and this business, you cant expect everyone to agree with the way you do things or like it. And this is much more of a valid statement with such a community who are known for being some of the most hostile of any community out there, which I have stated is a GREAT problem to have as well as a shitty problem to have for both extremes, very passionate but overboard at the same time.

Can you give me links to a year old video and a current video, so I can be the judge of this?

Also do you have the audition tape of what you did to get hired? I'd love to hear it, and if possible the audition tapes of other people who applied to be the anchor shoutcaster of HoNcast.

Breaky didn't audition. He was part of the organization from the beginning. Honcast was built specifically around him. I'm the only caster I know of that actually auditioned from the original crew. My first cast is on this forum. Probably on page 2 or 3 of the shoutcasts streams forum.

    BTW:

That's the first video uploaded to Honcast and showcases some amazing casting by breakycpk. This is before the ALLLLRIGHT intro.

    And that was my first.

BTW, I should note that breaky is an 1800 level player, not that it's some amazing feat or anything, but he's come a long way as far as being a player is concerned.

You can't just 'go Day9', the man is inimitable. Breakycpk has his own style and I respect him for it. It works.
