Do you remember the diablo3 art-style controversy? Some people liked it, some hated it. Personal preferences.

Heck even with UT3, the UT2004 player-base complained about the lack of color, whilst the UT99 crowd complained about the clutter and bloom.

I've been playing LoL as of recently, as I cant stand playing hon on my laptop because it hampers my gameplay too much. For the most part I prefer hon, but the graphics aren't that bad and I cant stand anime for the most part. The whole microtransaction thing really isn't as annoying as it seems, as they give you a bunch of free ones that rotate per week. Its fun and interesting, I wouldn't consider it a "worse version of HoN".

No, I don't remember the d3 art controversy. I remember seeing LoL's graphics and thinking 'Jesus Christ, it looks like ****' and never bothering to consider the game past that. If you want to sell me a serious game, making it look like a joke isn't the place to start.

I don't mind the art style choice in LoL, if only the champions just don't blend in with the over-colourful background. The teamfights looks more like me having hallucinations with all those crazy colours flying around.

That's their market, F2P gamers. Gamers willing to put time, effort, and money are a completely different community to the F2P gamer. They aren't trying to sell it, they made an easier MOBA game for people who want to play casually, it makes sense. HoN is where the real competitors come and beat the living hell out of their team mates for sucking.
