    APM - How is it calculated.

    Does it count the first minute where the game hasn't started, and the time in between deaths?

    APM-Actions per minute.
    So I guess, it's counting all your actions every minute and gets a statistic.

    Even rightclicking is an action which counts. So even tho you're just running around, buying items and stuff, while creeps (and therefore the countdown) hasn't started yet - APM should be in the statistic.

    I believe the actions taken before 00:00 count, when you are dead you don't have a unit to actually give actions to (unless you use a courier or minion) so it wouldn't count, using a courier or minion while dead would.

    it adds together every action u made during the whole game and then divides it by time so the actions before 00:00 are calculated in

    would make most sense

    Actions =

    Select, Move, Attack, Ability.

    Moving camera, for example, isn't an action. (Assuming they just copied the way SC and War3 do it.)

    i thought it was technically

    'activities per minute'

    there are definitely ways to inflate this. so it's not entirely accurate.

    animation cancelling can add like 50-100+ activities. using multiple clicks for pathing is also another way.

    And does "trying to use" item while stunned count towards APM? Just like if im stunned and im spamming ALT+A for power supply, does that count as 1 action after stun, or lot of actions during stun?

    I dont know if it counts when you are dead, but i assume it is!..

    APM = Actions per Minute.

    It counts all actions you do that are eligible in the game, so all clicks with the mouse and all buttons on the keyboard like H for hold and so on.

    Having 100 ish or more apm is good for many games, but i dont know how needed it is in hon. There are limited things to controll, but it is good with fast clicks to manouvre around the way its best

    Decancy is right, BeastTamer is wrong, just to clarify.

    I use the keyboard to move my camera (I know, I'm wierd), and I average about 25 APM, so just pressing keys definitely does not count as an action. It has to actually involve interacting with the game board.

    Its all about the ACTION you make . moving the camera is not an action , left clicking a unit is not an action .

    Action : move/attack/hold/stop/cast a spell/taunt/*buy item
    *im not sure about this 1

    But if while you are dead you move/hold/stop/cast a monkey that you own (or a converted creep) your APM will grow.

    Moving a courier while dead does increase APM, and trying to issue actions while stunned or out of mana or while something is on cooldown does not.

    Why can't you understand ?

    All the actions you still can do when you get a DC / game in pause aren't counted in APM.
    All the actions you can't do when you get a DC / game in pause are counted in APM.


    Dunno how it works with multiple selection + order. Does it increase by 6 the APM if you order 6 units to move somewhere?

    It used to, but it doesn't now.

    In proper RTS efficiency is a huge factor that has to be looked at alongside APM. Saviour, for example, is known for having brutally efficient micro, so despite having a lower overall APM than a lot of other pro SC players, his micro is very viable.

    In HoN efficiency doesn't matter because it's almost inconceivable that you would have more things to do than actions to do it with in the time frame.

    If you want to spam APM, the best way to do it is to issue move and stop orders as fast as you can by mashing both commands. You can easily crack 250-300 APM doing this. A friend and I used to have APM contests in DotA. Highest APM some games, lowest others.

    Playing with a deliberately low APM is quite difficult in most games of DotA/HoN because you have to predict a lot more a lot sooner. Efficiency in micro is one of the hardest habits to build as a long time DotA player and is vital if you ever want to play real RTS well.

    fyi APM alone is quite a meaningless statistic.
