here's why i like shieldbreaker over pbox:
you can counter gank people trying to gank you with shieldbreaker because you just ult + shruken and melt them.
with pbox, you need 2 seconds to summon hounds, summon pbox, cry, ult. takes too much time
abyssal > steams > shrunken > shieldbreaker
I guess you can say it's an alternative for the lazier people that dislike micro![]()

Wonderful guide, could be premium IMO. I am enjoying Plated Greaves > Steam for now, because I find that when my hero is disabled it is my minions doing the majority of the damage.
Also, Shieldbreaker does not reveal invisible units, PBox is a great way to make those shameful auto-selecting NH and Scout pay for their crimes, lol.
Kudos, thanks, ciao ~
I think this guide has alot of room for improvements simply because Warbeast is a versatile hero. This is just one way of playing him. WB rapes real hard with Pbox3, harder when there are stealth units...they just can't escape so it's one of the good reasons to get it. There is only 1 downside to Pbox3 that makes this item situational IMO and that is its CD being 55seconds(?) and WHAT if teams are about to clash and it is on CD? Is it going to be used to kill a lone hero? or save it while the ult is up thus wasting the gank potential of WB. Even if Pbox3 not used for ganking, he kinda has to hit alot and chase alot within that 16sec window of ult that may endanger him.Instead of a Pbox3, How about Whispering helm + dominated creeps? The only thing you'd lose from the Pbox is manaburn, chance to deal 800dmg, and a slight aura boost but still maintain ~same dps from dominated creeps with useful disable/aura's as well. The times when I use Pbox3, OFC it can take out towers extremely fast but dominated creeps can do just as well, is when there are stealth units or there are AOE dps based heroes(MQ/BEHE/ETC..) where the 800dmg from our lovely minion is really devastating in clashes. In high level play, do players actually try to kill them minions? If no then the 800dmg is wasted right? Other then that, WB is probably my #1+favorite hero. What should be implemented in your guide is the cost analysis of WB's skills and a calculation of his ACTUAL dps with all skills+items factored in that make this hero worth-trying out for those that have never played him or wanting to improve but has to agree/disagree with some things in the guide or see things in a different angle that improve their WB play or fear WB. That's it for now, an OK guide. Hopefully these texts will space out cuzz i'm @work through a proxy. Was this helpful?
Join an EM game. Pick war beast. Put some music on. Jungle a chalice, bones, puzzle 3, plated greaves, abyssal skull and geos in 25 minutes. Solo kong.
Summon wolves > summon puzzle box > ulti > geos > war cry > plated greaves. Kill a base tower, skip raxx, throne in 10 seconds.
Watch the noobs cry.
Just a question from someone new to War Beast-- how is this item build effected by the Blood Chalice nerf? I've noticed superficially that I'm often waiting on mana...would I be better off getting the Abyssal skull after alch bones now?
^ good question, I'll have to mess around with WB for a few games before I can give you a solid answer.
Just saying, Blood Chalice now returns 100 mana with a 35s CD.
As Lethe mentioned in his guide, summoning Hellhounds costs 125 mana & the wolves actually last 55s. 30s CD.
I'm sure in 35s you'll have regenerated >25 mana; so long as you haven't been spamming your 2nd skill all day

@Lethe
as WB is a strength hero, I think that picking Insanitarius somewhere along the way would be great. gives him everything he needs, both offensively and defensively. what are your thoughts on this item?
Good guide. I haven't played since Blood Chalice was introduced so I needed something to get me up to speed.
One question, can you explain "Allows you to neutral even if your camps are warded"? How does the Blood Chalice facilitate that?
Great guide! I've learned quite a bit actually (I've had problems with using blood chalice since the life loss, but i agree the 2nd trinket is massive.)
But, I do have some input into this:
Why steamboots? Usually you're not fighting without ulti form and if you get ganked, +60 MS isn't going to do jack. I got this idea from watching Scandal play I think. Just skip boots and go straight to the next item.
I think demonic and shieldbreaker are probably the two better items on war beast, because the aura affects all your minions, which is a massive buff over something like frostburn (which you waste the extra speed on anyways).
I feel like an endgame build of something like abyssal puzzlebox3 shrunken demonic shieldbreaker and savage mace is what I usually aim for.
Thanks again for the guide! Great advice on blocking spawns against other junglers.
I'm actually curious what other players that played a lot of war beast think of this too. I feel like it's good since the cooldown fits really well with your ulti (and it's not like you're exactly lacking the hp), so it's really useful dps. But at the same time, after abyssal, puzzlebox, alchemist and chalice, it's like 20 minutes or so and shrunken head is pretty pivotal for most teamfights (since cc is early game war beast's main problem), and after that, demonic for the teamfight help + dps to all your minions I feel is better even if it is more expensive.
Aite I'll post some of the replies. Sorry for being late on this stuff.
About insanitarius, the bottom line is that it is simply not necessary. A fast pbox outweighs a fast insanitarius. A fast shieldbreaker also outweighs a fast insanitarius.
When I say "allows you to neutral even if your camps are warded" I am referring to having adequate mana regen to use hounds to take down neutral camps that are not pullable. If you have ever played WB with the older RoTT + 2 mana pots build, you will know jungling if your pull camps is warded is really inefficient...you will probably have to go back to base at level 3/4 if you are not constantly using the courier for items.
The idea behind steamboots is just dps really. WB has pretty decent damage modifiers which work really well with the AS from steamboots. Plated greaves is decent as well, it has been confirmed to work on all of WB's minions. But it depends on your minions staying alive. I like steamboots more. You should get marchers because you will not always have your ult to escape, it's that simple. Skipping marchers can work, it's just really risky.
Shieldbreaker is a solid item on WB, but it is an item that really benefits you the earlier you can get it, and quite frankly, I think puzzlebox is much better. If you can't get pbox for whatever reason, there is absolutely no item I would rather have than shieldbreaker. Don't get me wrong, it is a VERY strong item on WB...in fact few heroes use shieldbreaker better then WB. It's just that pbox is even stronger.
I still think steamboots are not needed, but to each their own. You usually do have your ulti to escape (You're not jungling with it right?) and it's like a 90 second cooldown. If they try to gank you, you run back to the fountain and by the time you go jungle again, it should be up again. I don't think marchers really help ganks personally, just because by the time you get it, everyone who ganks/roams have steamboots, EM, or striders.
