well u need the right software and the right knowledge Tutorials etc.

First off start using photoshop. You won't get anywhere with Paint and Word ^^
And going off my fairly limited sig knowledge, you need to learn how to create depth, blend in the foreground with the background and most importantly work on text. There are many tutorials on all these things. Even if the tuts are for sigs (small canvases), the skills/techniques can be applied to bigger canvases.

much more improved for the signatures.however this first pic is a famous pic on deviantart made by garun "Angel of Fire" and i dont like taking a pic without permition and at least giving a credit to the original author.
