    HoN Match Spotlights

    Match Spotlights

The 5th and last GosuGamers.net SteelSeries $40,000 World Cup Qualifier Finals took place this past weekend, with the talented Russian squad Empr Gaming going up against the newly reformed KDe Gaming. Read on to see which team managed to take home the win along with 5 SteelSeries Siberia v2 Headsets!

    Game 1

In the 1st game it appeared that both teams would be utilizing a tri-lane strategy as KDe went with standard Glacius and Witch Slayer picks to support a Dark Lady carry while Valkyrie and Thunderbringer would be soloing. Empr on the other hand chose to pick Nymphora and Hellbringer to support their Chronos while Flint Beastwood and Wretched Hag were the 2 solo heroes.

However, Empr pulled another surprising move putting Chronos as their solo in the bottom lane while their tri-lane comprised of Nymphora, Wretched Hag, and Hellbringer. This proved to be very effective early on as Empr managed to get a 5-0 hero kill lead by pressuring both of Dark Lady's support heroes. However, this all changed as KDe, realizing top lane needed serious help, sent an invisible Thunderbringer top where he pulled off a crucial gank at the 7 minute mark. Further ganks by Thunderbringer as well as Valkyrie shut down Empr's tri-lane hopes. While Chronos managed to farm decently at bottom lane against Valkyrie, he still couldn't keep up with the pace of KDe's carry hero as Dark Lady rose up in hero kills and gold per minute. This made way for a 25 minute concede, 1-0 KDe.

    Game 2

    KDe Lane Empr Lane

    [KD]Akke Bot [Empr]Quaix Bot
    [KD]Loda Jungle [Empr]Scandal Bot

    [KD]Mag1X Mid [Empr]nooblike Bot

Both teams appeared to swap heroes in the 2nd game as Empr picked Dark Lady while KDe went for Nymphora and Chronos. KDe also grabbed Engineer, Glacius, and Tempest against the Valkyrie, Voodoo Jester, Devourer, and Slither picks from Empr. KDe sent Nymphora to solo top against Devourer while Glacius and Chronos took on the tri-lane of Voodoo Jester, Dark Lady, and Slither on bottom lane. This left Engineer to solo middle lane against Valkyrie while his teammate Tempest took the jungle. This lane setup proved to be unfortunate for KDe as Devourer played aggressively and grabbed the 1st kill of the game with a nice hook early on.

Once again the Dark Lady's farm severely outpaced the other team's Chronos, and a Kongor kill at the 31 minute mark paved the way for Empr to end the game. They pushed with Dark Lady picking away at each hero with her insane DPS, taking both the middle and bottom barracks. Great play by the Russians took the match and the stage was set for the final match with the score tied at 1-1.

    Game 3

    Empr Lane KDe Lane
    [Empr]uniQFazer Top [KD]kay' Bot
    :chro: [Empr]Scandal Bot [KD]Akke Top
    [Empr]violation_ Mid [KD]Mag1X Top
    [Empr]nooblike Bot [KD]Loda Mid
    [Empr]Quaix Bot [KD]SemiJew Bot

Since the winners of the last 2 games had used the Dark Lady, it wasn't much of a surprise when she was quickly banned for game 3. KDe grabbed Glacius, Slither, Pandamonium, Dr. Repulsor and the Madman while Empr took Chronos, Valkyrie, Witch Slayer, Andromeda, and a very shocking pick of Blood Hunter.

Empr put a tri-lane of Chronos, Witch Slayer, and Andromeda middle against Dr. Repulsor, while KDe sent their tri-lane of Pandamonium, Glacius and Slither top lane. To everyone's surprise, Empr decided to avoid the tri-lane and simply had Valkyrie roam and jungle, giving Panda free farm. With no one to challenge them, Glacius and Slither went to bottom lane to help their Madman dominate Blood Hunter. Three minutes into the game, Valkyrie finally goes top lane but is too far behind to stop the solo Panda from farming.

A few lane switches later with no luck and slowly losing in levels and gold, Empr ganked KDe's Panda and his teammates at the Hellbourne ancients and tried to grab some momentum back but Dr. Repulsor and the Madman quickly dropped all of Empr's heroes with the exception of Chronos, leaving the teamfight in their favor. Shortly thereafter KDe grabbed a Kongor kill and sealed the final game with a token on Dr. Repulsor. Empr concedes after losing a few more skirmishes and KDe wins the Eastern European Qualifier finals 2 to 1!

So you are saying that BH is a bad pick in that situation?! Both a great counter to DrR (silence) and Madman (invis revealing passive), but they where too ballsy in the laning phase and that screwed them over.

There is also a very good reason for MSI always picking Andro, when they run (/ran?) the Panda trilane.

Empr had them outpicked by far, they just didn't survive the laning phase.

seems to have very little to do with the Kongor imbalance that people point to though. All 3 games were essentially won/lost in the laning phase.
