    [Shaders] Alternate shaders

Note: These are not my modified shaders that I recently posted. If you are looking for those, click here. Otherwise, feel free to read on.
So I was playing around with some stuff and wondered if there were any shaders that could produce a cell shading effect in HoN. I found there were shaders labeled "toon" and figured there was a good chance they were what I wanted. But instead I found these seem to change the way shadows are rendered on the units, making them look more dramatic and a little darker. Instead of making them look like cartoons, I think it almost makes them look a little more realistic. I liked the way it looks and decided to use these from now on instead of the default ones, so I figure I'll share them with you guys in case you want to use them too.

Here's some comparison shots taken at max settings. The first picture is with normal shaders, the second is with the toon shaders, and the last is with toon shaders and no post effects.

And please try it out in-game before you say "That's way too dark" or "I don't see any difference". Some things look a lot different moving around than they do in screenshots.

    Download Toon Shaders: toon.zip

To Install extract the files from the zip archive and place them in this folder Program Files/Heroes of Newerth/game/core/shaders/ps_3_0/ overwriting the original files. Then go the game console (ctrl+f8) and enter the command reloadshaders. This mod will probably only work if your shader setting is set to high in the options menu.

If you decide you don't like the new shaders or can't get them to work, here's the original shaders. Just follow the same instructions as above.

looks like they just increase contrast a lot and reduce brightness a bit on the textures.

but looks nice. will use them from time to time i think, just for freshness.

You'll probably notice it a lot more in-game.

I'm thinking I should change the title to "HD FILTER!" so 10 times as many people will download it.

They should just make this an optional shaders option in game. Would be sweet.

This is great, you can really see the difference if youre running on max settings w/ post processing etc, especially the original maliken model looks really good.

If youre on the fence, try them in game, the screenshots doesnt do it justice.

Hey BlackRyu, can you create a custom shader to make Image more clear and sharp in Max Setting (reduce bloom and blur) ?

Not sure what you mean by that, I think Dr. Rep is one of the best looking with the new shader.

I run HoN on mac and I'm having a hard time locating the folder that you show in your instructions. Any idea how to get this working on Mac?

Hmm I'm not sure, I don't use mac and I don't even know if shaders are the same on both systems (I'd guess they are). It should be wherever you have HoN installed, then game/core/shaders/ps_3_0

On Windows there are two folders called 'Heroes of Newerth', one in programs and one in documents, and they both have a 'game' subfolder, so even if you find a folder called 'Heroes of Newerth' it might not be the right one.

After turning up the brightness a little bit, I must say; the shaders give a great new feel to HoN.

    Thank you for this!!
