Someone around here was writing a really good guide for Engineer after the recent changes he took.
I was just wondering what other people were building on him post Portal Key.
Can he Carry with something like a :Wingbow: and :GeometersBane: setup.
I find myself wanting/needing :ShrunkenHead:, most games. Then I run into regen problems. Where we just pushed the last tower in a lane, but have to back to pool because I'm way low on mana and health. It seems like building :Sustainer: and then turning that into :Nullstone: or :SacrificialStone: would be better, depending on enemy team.
I've never played Engineer as the team carry, but it seems like a lot of options previous guides gave after Pkey, were because the weapon's effect also effected turret.
Anyway, I'm just curious what other Engineers were building.
engi isnt really a carry at all anymore. Just get a tablet of command for him. its incredibly good for him, course blink is core for him
Bottle/Power Supply/Blood Chalice + Phase Boots + Port Key
After that it's situational. Port key is absolutely core, there simply is not a better pick up. I'd say Tablet is an exceptionally fun luxury on him.
Shrunken is a pretty big waste as his auto attack damage is actually pretty pathetic. Nullstone is a decent pick up.
Portal key is a good item for landing ultimates.
Nullstone is nice for the regen/stats/spellblock.
Geobane is the standard agi damage item.
Frostwolf is the best item for all around stats, with a sick slow.
You can go for thunderhammer/rift/savage after geos for nice damage.
First three are standard, I like frostwolf in general, after that you want damage anyway.
No you dont. Engineer has no single scaling ability. Unless nobody on your team is going to dps, do NOT pick up damage items. The way to get most out of engineer is by getting most out of your spells. To do this, you want items that are geared towards support or survivability.
So yeah you get portal key, some regen items (power supply, bottle, blood chalice - one or two of these) and then you can start having some real fun. The possibilities for tablet of command are endless, and I've found myself getting a sheepstick on him if the game drags on. Also, if the enemy is heavy on magic, don't think twice about picking up shamans. Same goes up for nullstone and strong single target spells. Maybe even a puzzlebox if nobody on your team is getting one.
The only thing I agree with is frostwolf. That's a nice pickup on engineer. Gives him some more utility and provides great stats. Geobane is a very situational item you can get for the dispel effect and some advanced illusion usage, but there's a lot of other items you can get instead.
I do like Assassin's Shroud. Pkey is better, but a lot of times it's a ***** when you don't have vision on their team. I can see getting it when you have another pkey user like magmus, so you can scout and put vision on enemy. That way you guys don't both go in blind and chance wasting ultimates.
Then again, pro ward placement can help out a lot.
best build is
1) boots (any)
2) :Sustainer: - for skill spam
3) :Portalkey: - great ulti placement
4) :Nullstone:/:SacrificialStone: - depends on enemy team
5) :TabletOfCommand:/:Puzzlebox: - to get more max mana
6) :RestorationStone: - for the lulz
Sustainer before Portal Key? Really?
I can see maybe doing mana tube and then Pkey.
I can usually get pk 20min in game anyway and I don't feel like I need it before.
boots, pk, tablet, sac/null, geo/restoration/frostwolf, geo/restoration/frostwolf
Keg/Turret/Max Tinker/Max Turret/Max Keg/Max Stats (get Ulti whenever)
Your choice of boots + Puzzlebox
Push and win.

Im playing him in a pusher-type way
First, i get 2x:MarkOfTheNovice: (or :CrushingClaws:/uckBoots:, depends on your playstyle)
After that, im farming some gold for Striders, then build my first bought items into the bigger one (:FortifiedBracelet: for example)
Now you got some hp/mana and the ability to run to different lanes.
Next will be :Nullstone:, giving you good manareg and survivabilty by giving you healtreg and the ability too block spells.
This item is followed by :ChargedHammer:, then :Shieldbreaker: or any other carry-type item, you may go for survivability here, or support you team with items like :FrostfieldPlate
Skillorder ist Ulti>Turret>Keg>Tinker
But the first skill is Keg, because a stun is always worth too be skilled first.
Gameplay is pusher-like, set your turret too get awesome farm and push with your autoattack/creeps/tinker, if you are in danger, save yourself with a keg, like you normaly do.

this is my build for him
Starting build :MinorTotem::MinorTotem::RunesOfTheBlight::HealthP otion:uckBoots:
uckBoots:
then make :IronShield::PowerSupply: ASAP, obviously if you're against guys likeget your battery quick. if not get the shield, it let's you stay in lane much longer because enemy harass is less effective.
first items to shoot for are :Punchdagger::Punchdagger::Lifetube::Manatube: in whatever order you need them for your :Sustainer: :EnhancedMarchers:
Next pick up your :TabletOfCommand::Portalkey:, either work, from my experiences PK works MUCH better.
number next, finish your:Nullstone:
after that you're ready to get into serious team fights
From here, it's time to make engi stupid. go for a :Warpcleft:, then pick up your make your :Thunderclaw: and finally finish it into a :ChargedHammer:
From here you can go one of two routes.
If you're dieing before you can do any dmg or assit your teammates in fights, you might consider making a :SacrificialStone:
If you're doing fine and you want to really help your team with DPS, make a :SavageMace:
Those are six items on engi that make him insanely good to have on your team.
remember to use engi's new turret to it's fullest by doubling or triple stacking camps between two sites and you'll make the money you need in no time.
GL, HF, not really, hate you kids.
you bad bad player.
Engineer isn't a carry anymore... his 2.3 agi gain is horrid without the turret...
engineer,
Blood chalice, nullstone, phase boots, charged hammer, savage mace, frost burn/frostwolf skull
my reason is simple if you say that he is worthless without his turret then you are playing the wrong game. his turret deals more dmg then his keg. ok his keg has burst dmg but if you want more dmg then turret is perfect with his slow.
those that say engineer isnt a carry anymore makes me Rofl
Engineer is as much as a carry as forsaken archer or valkyrie. No scaling abilities but farms really really fast. Turret+Keg basically two shots a creepwave like soulstealer does. Valk is usually considered a semi-carry which is what Engi is as well.
Likewise, there is no reason to get charged hammer over the regular Geobane/Savage mace. Would you get charged hammer on valk/fa? No, probably not. Engineer doesn't have anything special anymore that makes it better on him. You pretty much only see it on Wildsoul because his bear can tank and proc the charged up hits times infinity on creepwaves and Wildsoul has no AOE farming ability so it helps a lot. And there's definitely no reason to go charged hammer then shieldbreaker. Those two items have nothing to do with each other.
The agi gain isn't that bad. At 2.3 per level he has a base of around 75 AGI at level 25 compared to FA's 82. Engi's str gain is much much higher though (2.3 vs 1.7) so it compensates.
