Exactly what Silvermaze said, and even more

where he (most likely) got his information:
    http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/items.php?sid=5

There is more information there, if want to find some on your own

As far as plated greaves on defi + legio, (as an example):

They usually already get a shamans headress, or at least mystic vestments. If they don't, or if they do, in both cases, they need armor (physical damage reduction) or HP.

    so:
If the enemy team has only magic damage, you get shamans + HP

If the enemy team only has physical damage, you get armor + HP

Any mix will usually result in either shamans+armor+hp or vestments + armor + hp

Considering that plated greaves give armor where not a lot of other (useful) items do, this is why plated greaves are considered a useful item (apart from the activation effect)

    To sum it up:

Defi and Legio require EHP, which is build up by magic armor, armor, and HP.

PS: Plated Greaves are not the only way to go, and i never said, merely explained the advantages, steam boots and ghost marchers have other advantages, and disadvantages, which i can explain as well if anyone feels like getting that information, however i would go to a defiler guide which should explain it as well, and otherwise someone should build a better defiler guide
A conclusion is the place where you got tired of thinking.

Something I came across when I was studying: Will Iron Shield or Iron Buckler block some damage from Armadons spines?

Shield only blocks damage from physical attacks, so no, it does not block spines.

How are the 3 lifesteal items (not including Symbol of Rage) best used? Or in other words, what types of heroes are they best used on?

    As far as I know:
Lifesteal :HungrySpirit: in general is good/necessary on carries.
Elder Parasite :ElderParasite: is good on heroes with a crit or bash that needs to proc.
Abyssal Skull :AbyssalSkull: is best on strength carries because they survive longer which maximizes the time the aura is given to the team.
Whispering Helm :WhisperingHelm: is good on squishier carries because it doesn't increase damage on yourself (like :ElderParasite: does) and it can be turned into a SoR :SymbolOfRage: later.

Elder Parasite on Chronos only, and even then is debatable, possibilities but still fairly situational are Hammerstorm, Predator and maybe Swiftblade as far as I know. Abyssal Skull is generally picked up when you want lifesteal but already have another orb effect in place such as shield breaker or frost wolf's skull. Whispering Helm is the staple life steal picked up on a carry if one does not plan on any other orb and is also picked up for ancient stacking. This is done by capturing a creep and using it to stack the ancients while you hero is away and busy doing other errands. SoR is usually just a late game life steal item some carrys get, notable earlier/common SoR users are Madman or Swiftblade.

Although the guy above me is in the right direction, i disagree on some points, therefore my opinion:

EP: Useless on 99% of the heroes, in 99% of the cases. Just dont buy this, and certainly not on ranged heroes. (I think predator would be the most useful hero for this item, but still, dont get it on him)
Aby Skull: Get this if you have a better orb effect, strenght carries pick this up because they need the orb effect, and some other agi heroes that also could use it, such as sb, wb, tdl
WH: What the guy above me stated, + that you can transform it into a SoR which makes it a item which can be upgaded, so it's good looking into late game (since you only have 6 inventory slots)

I disagree for WH on swiftblade, i think he needs either a SB, or a Icebrand/FWS

But this is my opinion, figure out what suites best for you in your PSR class (except for EP, just... dont get that, please)

Don't ever get Elder Parasite. The 30% increased damage taken significantly out-weighs any damage increase you could possibly imagine. If you want attack speed, go get a Warp Cleft from the Secret Shop. It's only 200 more gold, more consistent attack speed, no damage taken penalty, and most of all it doesn't take a modifier slot.

Abyssal Skull is a good item, but because it's an aura, you should usually ask a support to get it. While it does provide lifesteal, it is fairly expensive for a small bonus. Since the damage increase only applies to base damage, you only get ~15-30 damage from it.

Whispering Helm is the item I highly recommend for any hero in need of lifesteal. I've always felt that lifesteal is a little bit overrated in the current meta-game; carries either burst or get bursted, so lifesteal doesn't really have much effect. With that said, Whispering Helm is a great item if you don't aim to build Shieldbreaker or Frostburn.

Should the game get to that point, Symbol of Rage will be the best carry vs. carry item in the game, making Whispering Helm that much stronger.

Do you have to have vision of a hero for your hero to auto attack that enemy? I would think so but sometimes when I am in practice mode I will spawn an enemy hero in the trees. My hero will start auto attacking him (and doing damage) even though I can't see the enemy hero on the screen. Is that supposed to happen or is this just a practice glitch? Thanks!

AFAIK you need to have vision to auto attack, you can attack and he can juke you, the attack will still hit.

So, it should be a practice glitch

Hmm...could be...what i do is put the enemy hero in the trees (in practice mode) and then have my hero attack an open space behind the enemy hero so that my hero walks toward the enemy hero...all of a sudden he'll start attacking him w/o being seen....weird.....

Fog of War and Line of Sight calculations are (AFAIK) seperate. This means that while you can not "see" the other hero, your hero knows where he is. This happens in practice mode because all spawned heroes are considered to be "on your team" and therefore your hero is able to attack them.

If you wish to spawn a hero in the trees without attacking him, make sure you change "Local_Client" to "None". This makes the hero not on your team/under your control, but obviously prevents you from controlling it.

This is all speculation, it may just be a run of the mill practice mode glitch.

    Items/Skill build on a bubbles?

  16. #356
Hmm, I posted this over at ask a question in strategy but I suppose it would be more appropriate here. A few friends and I have been playing basically since beta began and they are amazing while I'm still stuck at like month 1.

I die entirely too much with every hero I play. I get so frustrated because I can't do decent with anyone. The only time I do OK is when my team is amazing. Once the game gets to the point where the first towers are gone I don't really know how to farm. Jungle seems not efficient and lanes too dangerous. I fall behind anywhere from 2-5 levels and just can't do anything the rest of the game. I don't really know what I'm doing wrong.

Well, the first thing "we" need to know, what kind of hero role do you play?

If you play carry, if the lanes are to dangerous, go to the forest, inefficient > not farming at all
If you play ganker/support, organise a gank on one of those unsafe lanes.

Semi-carry's can do both, depending on the circumstances

It's hard to tell more from your description

    Item build on bubbles

This really depends, since bubbles has his own build-in semi-pk, semi-stormspirit

My item build usually is tablet of command, storm spirit, pk, but this depends on line-ups, you can get a pb if no1 else can carry it, early post haste are good for map control + pushing, FFP against enemy carries and more team fight presence, Stormspirit/kuldra for disables.

Generally, get a tablet of command, and from that point on it's situational

Tablet is so good because it gives you some stats, and an amazing tool to help teammates, kill of enemies, save yourself. Every int hero can make good use of it, so please consider it's worth
A conclusion is the place where you got tired of thinking.

    I mostly play ganker/support.

How much damage does a 300 damage nuke do to a hero with the starting amount of magic armor?

  20. #360
I usually play tank/support in these types of games (usually more towards support). Who would be a good starter hero for me?
