Yes, I believe this would be a good addition to the game
No, I don't think this is a good idea
Remember, this is a concept. I'm working with the numbers, any help is appreciated. Don't let it affect your opinion.
200 - Relics
Increases attack range by 50 units.
This item contains Range properties. Range properties do not stack. Instead, you will instantly benefit from the item that has the biggest Range modifier. Melee attacks do not benefit from Range modifiers.
The Scope is intended as a basic item. It can help you get an early game advantage, but it gives you no stats. (You could for example buy a minor totem and duck boots instead.) It's great for harassing, and can help out heroes like Moon Queen who struggles a bit with their range. A downside I need to evaluate is how it impacts melee units, and if it further increases the laning gap because of increased harassment. I want it to be cheap with a minor and useful effect, but not a common laning item.
Some ideas I had in my mind:
- 125 Attack Range
- 25 Attack Damage
- 16 Agility
- Aimed Shot [Passive]
All your attacks have a 20% chance to deal an additional 60 damage and reveal your target for two seconds. Aimed Shot deals triple damage against non-heroes.- 200
Orb of Sol
- 75 Attack Range
- 3 Life Regeneration
- 5 Strength
- Increased VisionRemember, the thread is about the initial item, not the recipies.- 200
- 15 Attack Speed
- 15 Attack Damage
- 100 Attack Range
- 6 Intelligence
- 100% Mana Regeneration
- Arcane Reach [Passive]
The Range of all your spells are increased by 100 units.
Thanks in advance.
looks kinda cool...but honestly, i just want a cool hero that just has way more range than anyone else...SNIPERS WIN!
Interesting concept but it's so cheap that it would be ridiculous not to buy it on a range hero which means that everyone will get it which defeats the purpose of putting it in the game because it's as if every hero has +50 to their attack range. Remember, the point of implementing suggestions is to offer players variety and options, not to put something in the game that will cause restrictive item selection.
It would instantly become a staple item on heroes whose range is already ridiculously far (Arachna...).
Range is so important to the game, I don't think there should ever be an item that increases range unless it comes at a huge cost. It's very important to know what your opponents' range is, and for that reason I think attack range should be fixed or only changed very rarely.
I'd like to add that 50 attack range isn't so big late-game, when laning is less crucial. 100 or more is always a big deal IMHO, because it distances you from enemy AOE abilities.
If your item was a top tier item or dealt pure damage to the hero on attack, I would probably vote yes. (I'm saving my vote for that time.)

I think maybe if the attack range was reduced to maybe 25 or the cost was higher than 200, then yes i think it would be a good idea.
But i cant imagine a hero gaining a 650 attack range early game, there would be so much harassment, especially on the melee heroes.
And for the melee heroes maybe a non-stackable -25 attack range aura at about 750 unit radius?
Just throwing ideas out there.
The initial idea was to have it as more of a luxury item, but I think it can be used in enough ways for it to be a basic item.
I agree 100 range on some of the recipies might be a bit much though. I like Nightstrike currently, because it lets you outrange towers on certain heroes. However, Orb of Sol and Magic Flow might need an adjustment in price or something.
So, potential ways to solve the issue:
- Increase the cost
- Reduce the effect
- Make it unsellable
- Disable purchase early-game
Okay, increasing the cost and reducing the effect is obvious. Out of the two, I'd rather do the first one. Maybe 300 is a good idea?
About the two others:
Unsellable would discourage useage of it to only harass early in the game. I would probably need to increase the cost a bit anyway.
For the last one, it's not a "nice" way to fix it, but it's an option. Giving it a 8 minute cooldown or so, when autoattack harassing isn't as dangeous as usual.
Well my problem is that with heroes that have powerful orb attacks from the beginning, like Arachna and Slither, that 50 range is going to be a lane killer. It really is only because of those kinds of heroes that I see the 300g item as imba. Having a range increase in a 5000g+ item would be a lot better to me.
This could be a fun item... however what about a max range limit (625 of something of the order...)
Could be a good item to make or and even more useful.
However it is unbalanced if it pushes range far beyond the 600 radius..
Because TB as he is now.. is just a melee hero with the downsides of a ranged hero..

for such a cheap price this item would be necessary on every hero, almost like boots.
Needs tweaks, such as a negative effect on stats or damage, or having a chance to miss at longer ranges.
Also my hero is pretty relevant to this item (see sig)
Not everyone prefers Coke over Pepsi, does that mean Coke's recipe is wrong or Pepsi's is right? Probably not, but when Coke pisses off its customers and then Dr Pepper is released, everyone forgets about Coke and Pepsi and just drinks the superior product that is Dr Pepper.
As if melee heroes needed more crap thrown at them, this would definitely increase the gap between ranged and melee heroes that already exists in HoN.
Most melee heroes need to purchase a portkey to bridge the gap with ranged units and that costs 2150 gold. Giving +50 ranged to someone who already has 600 ranged for only 200 gold is stupid imba.
I think it's a very interesting idea, however I think (like somebody else said) that an item that increase range probably belongs in more of a 1000+ price range than a 200g item.
I don't understand why everyone thinks this would be imba on already long ranged heroes; it would definitely be helpful on short range heroes (MQ especially).
Either make it expensive, or make it an activated ability (either way, make it a bit more expensive). I don't personally like the item or how it would affect the game, but I won't vote for or against.
