You can log into a single account multiple times and play in the same game. This allows people to avoid purchasing HON because multiple people can use the same account.
I've confirmed this myself.

The fifth slot on the legion has no stats displayed on the match stats but as you can see from the replay is in the game. In this case, yellow and orange are the same account.
