But what exactly is his role? I haven't been able to play with him, I was out at the bar doing karaoke all evening, and now the servers are all ****ed up so I can't find a game, but I glanced over his skillset and toyed with him in practice to become acquainted with his attack animation and such.
I can see him as being a viable mid hero, who turns into a ganker at level 6. (Think along the lines of Corrupted Disciple or Thunderbringer.) At the same time, he also has some pretty decent sidelaning potential, and has synergy with a couple of carries, and also has a place in a defensive lane because of his slow.
Which leaves me confused. How have you guys been treating him? Do you just build your cookie cutter INT carry items on him? Do you go Port Key for better tar throws?
This isn't so much a balance thread (So let's keep the "OMG HE'S SO OP" **** to a minimum, please.) but more of a "what is this communities take on how this hero can be MOST effective" since it honestly wasn't blatantly obvious.
He's a strong ganker. A lane with him in it will dominate due to his tar, and he can gank from mid as well.

So I take it he's a safe Swiftblade/Slow laner?
I see him being used as an amazing push-anti push hero. Get a defiler and a slither on your team, pop Defiler's ult and Slither's wards. Pop that Chipper ult to cut off the area behind a tower and they pretty much cannot do anything to stop a tower going down, even if they are slightly stronger in levels and gear.
Alternatively, in a turtle team with a hard-carry and coupled with a behemoth, a team cannot really push into a tower if the ult is right next to the tower, nor can they afford to have a blinking Behemoth initiate into them, and stunlock them for several seconds under a Chipper ult. If the hard carry is a Sandwraith, toss a Force Buffer on him and now the Sandwraith is kicking out even more magic damage.
That and the obvious gank potential. As far as the "role" goes, he is an amazing hero that the meta-game needed.
He'd be great with Magmus or someone else with a guaranteed stun though.

IMO Forego the first level of ulti and max the 1st two skills- turn into a mean ganker and then late game your 3rd skill can help alot for your carry and you can also be somewhat of a turtler with your ulti. Items for me are nomes- grieves- if i had mid then sac stone 1st- and wards- i could see puzzlebox viable too and portal key
Just keep in mind that Tar Toss has a 0.4s cast point

Thoughts? Finally a strong nuker after the past 9530283 freaking carries.
He reminds me of the Twin-Headed Dragon from DotA. His ult is very similar, and he's a positional-based heavy nuker with low hp. His Force Buffer just wrecks certain lineups, and he has good synergy with alot of heroes.
I very much like this hero. He has a lot of utility - his rockets are on a low cooldown and manacost, so you can use them to reliably scout runes and such. He should dominate in mid with tar and rockets - burst nuking, a slow/dps, and the ability to bottle and runewhore like crazy by scouting those runes whenever they might show up.
His big problem is that to be effective he needs to have tons of mana. He needs to be able to spam his rockets constantly to get good effect out of them - which means he ideally needs like 20mp/sec mana regen. He has problems farming that kind of regen.
His ultimate is on a nice low cooldown, so he can definitely use it to farm creepwaves.
is his buffer really all that good? 600 ranged aoe that reflects 20% magic attack right? (only 2 ppl at once usually (resto stone? xD)).
You're also not taking 20% magic damage. Helps in team fights for those heroes that tend to get focus fired. Plus it's not bad to cast on yourself before you go for a gank. Any extra DPS helps.
I played a game with him earlier, I really liked the third skill a lot. I did what most others have said, I leveled the first two and the ult first, but once I got it, I noticed how badly it **** on certain heroes. I accidentally sniped a few KS' with the shield skill because we were up against a Slither who would constantly try and ult us. It was very effective, because he'd basically wreck himself.
The rocket impact point could be a little bit better, but overall I like him just fine. He's a good ganker, and a great hero to have in pushes and tower defenses.
